    hl2 ctf

    Hello tkc

This is my first post, your forums look good. I just wanted to welcome you guys to hl2 ctf. I know you have been playing for awhile but I usually don't get to play on wednesdays. It's good to see new people interested in the mod.

We should scrim sometime. I can probably get four or five zen guys together for a game.

I like your server, it's nice playing with so many people. My only suggestion is get some more maps on your server and maybe try pro mode now and then. I know most ctf guys don't like dm mode. Walljumping is really addictive once you get use to it and everyone likes a good bunnyhop :)

I look forward to more games with you guys and if you ever have any questions about the mod check out the ctf forums. Everyone there is usually pretty good about helping out.

    Re: hl2 ctf

    Thanks.

We're trying to keep the maps down to just a handful as some of us learn the game, but we try new maps periodically. As for pro mode. Not going to happen. We tried that when we first had our very first server and all that did was scare everyone away because of all the wall jumping and rocket jumps. All the zen and das guys were flying all over the place and it wasn't fun for new people. We are the only dm mode server out there, and I think that's cool. Plenty of chances to play pro mode elsewhere.

Anyway, please join us when you can. :)

The one thing several of our guys have noticed is that.. I think it's 'shoots from the hip' or whatever, doesn't seem to play as a 'team' very often. I mean I don't want to throw an extremely skilled player under the bus but he just seems to want to do it all himself. I was hearing some complaints about it last night, and I'm one of those who openly made comments to him.

He is very good and skilled, I just wish he'd be willing to play with us lower forms of gamer and throw us the flag once in a while. Those of us who really love CTF love it because it's so much more team oriented than HL2DM, but when he's on your team, it seems everyone is left to just shooting and killing again. I know I personally LOVE the strategy and throwing the flag and trying to beat the other team like that, not just because I can shoot better than them.

Anyway, hope to see you there.

I understand where you're coming from. From the hips is just use to promode servers, where it is faster to run the flag than throw it. When you throw the flag you also have risk of the other team returning it. The other team can return it, if they are anywhere near you when you when move it to your grav gun, even if they are behind you. It's just safer to have the flag on your back and run it than pass it. Especially when you're in a pub game with little or no communication. I mean how many times have you thrown the flag and the other team just returns is. Why not just hold on to it and score.

Most ctf clans have a runner and a defender while the rest of the team tries to control the map with kills. The runner will throw to the defender when it is needed.

I'll try to get some zen guys to play on wednesdays more often. Maybe we can get a scrim going.

Yeah I figured it was something like that, in fact someone even brought it up that in promode you probably keep the flag more often. But i'm not talking about throwing it to an area. For example on the bedrooms map, he would go to the dresser top and I would tell him, i'm at the window.. no one around me. When he's not around that is one of the ways we score the most.. the teammate grabs the flag and throws it to the person defending at the window.. and there you go. He did score a lot, but I think we wanted to be more involved.

It's not a big deal, just heard some grumblings but he shouldn't change his game for us.

It's not like I was trying to hide my displeasure the night we were playing. I made at least 2 snide remarks to him openly. Thing is, those of us who know how to play, maybe not to his level, on HL2DM mode, throw the flag and use it quite effectively to relay the flag and score quickly. I have no problem if someone feels they have a better chance if they keep it some of the time.. i've done that, but it was over and over. I did put 2 and 2 together and realized that he was probably used to that.

Regardless, from the hip/lsd u are welcome to play any time you like and do whatever you think is best, I don't think anyone would argue you aren't a talented CTF player. I will say, if you are on a team with some of the better TKC CTF players, you will find that we purposely, on the maps where its effective, will try to create a 'relay line' so one person goes in and grabs, throws to an area where one of his teammates is, then he relays it to the next guy. Very affective on maps liked pedestal, floodzone, etc. Of course usually we attract people who haven't played before and they can mess that kind of teamwork up. ;)
