Nah i don't think so she's seen me play that before and she was like "eww is that a killing game?" and I was like "sort of, but it's really just capture the flag" then she said "well it still has killing in it" and she walked away disgusted. So I don't think that's going to happen....but hey I'm getting a laptop for when I start duel-enrollment college classes this fall and im making sure i get a good laptop so I'll get on when im not home :icon_cunning:

Well hopefully by then she will have forgotten about it but I've got options if she doesn't. I kinda use video games as an escape from reality when im depressed or want to be alone....that's why im especially ticked about this whole thing because now i don't have that escape with the games i like.

Some alternatives include reading. I could give you a few suggestions (however it depends on your discretion - i dont want to provide you with something that you find offensive). For example, I know you are a Christian, so suggesting "Not Wanted on the Voyage" by timothy findley might not be the best novel for you -- but it is funny [its a satire and chronicals Noah and his family -- it explains a few things, like: why there is no fairies and no unicorns (the reason why unicorns no longer exist is disturbing though - i was 17 when i read it but it isnt really suited for that age group)] Anyways if you are interested i could go through my collection and recommend some to you.

I went to a private christian school for two years and hated it. Was glad to get back to public school after that. I know a lot of homeschool kids. There are a lot of familes that go to our church who homeschool. There are also plenty with their kids in public school.

That's what you call a "sweeping generalization". A stereotype that is really unfair to a lot of kids. I think what is happening is that the ones who fit your description are the ones that you've noticed because of their behavior. I have had tons of respectful kids who treat me and others the right way and make good decisions. I only have one or two every year who fit your description. Not all well-behaved christian kids are homeschooled or private-schooled. I get plenty in my classes.

well I'm already into reading but there aren't really many books out there that I like. Some of my favorites are my Ted Dekker. He's my favorite author. I'm waiting right now for my library to get the final book of the Pendragon series by D.J. MacHale in. the bookstores are so darn expensive and i usually dont have any money so im glad i have a library to go to. as for "Not Wanted on the Voyage" rofl i'll probably look it up. lol here's a video from Robot Chicken that explains why the mythical creatures didn't make it. there are a couple random clips before and after the actual one im talking about.

So Gobbles, about those books. I've started reading again, and i just finished reading all of Palahniuk's novels. The Fountainhead is still my favorite book, though. I'll be reading Helter Skelter and A Confederacy of Dunces next. Any other suggestions?

Re: Probably won't see me in the servers for a while

It depends if you are interest in non-fiction or fiction, satires or dramas. andyou are my age i belief so maybe i could offer a few suggestions. Classic novels that are always worth reading (even more than once) include: George orwell's "animal farm", or "1984", or his essay "shooting an elephant". Ken Kesey's "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" (interesting side note: Ken kesey tested acid for the government in the 60s O_o). Hunter Thompson's "fear and loathing in las vegas" (or his lesser novel "The Rum Diary" -- set to become a film starring depp). There are some great canadian novels like "In the skin of a lion" by michael ondaatje (he aslo wrote "the english patient"-an oscar winning film-which is sort of a sequel -- it has some of the same characters thats all). Currently im reading Slaughter house five, but lost it :icon_rolleyes: . Of course the great gatsby, and lord of the flies - if you didnt read them in school.

Some messed up novels that arent worth reading (unless you enjoy that sort of thing) include: "Times arrow" - its written backwards (conversations start at the end etc). Riddley Walker - it has its own language. And of course Salman rushdie's Satanic verses - only he knows what its about. These were all failed book club attempts that resulted in reading something else. However, I do dare you to try them (times arrow is probably the easiest).

Others: Thomas kings "green grass, running water" (wasnt bad, its one long pun and if you dont get it..well meh) 12th night (one of shakespeare's work where im not beating my head into my desk), not wanted on the voyage like a said, its not bad, or "the wars" another findley novel. "Three day road" - that guys first novel (Boyden) about a pair of native (objitbwae or cree or whatever) snipers in WWI.

non-fiction: amusing ourselves to death by neil postman - good if you are a luddite and belief in technological determinism as a bad thing. Michael herr's dispatches and apocalypse now - havent read those but my friend said its great (the movie was). Machiavelli's "the prince" circa 1527or32. There is a lot of philosophical or political science work thats interesting too.

to read list: grapes of wrath, a star called henry, to finish stone angel, and slaughter house five.

etc etc. there are a few more but those should keep you busy.

I recognized that name  , yeah fight club (great movie - heard the book was good too - definetly one of those books that i intended to pick up -- thx for the reminder :icon_happy: ) As for the others you mentioned i havent read those either. I've slowed down considerably, i use to read a book every 4 weeks for book club and by the end of a month i had to write a 5000-10000 word (at least 1000 every week) non-summary analysis of the book. Reading is more relaxing now, but i lack motivation :icon_duh: . And i prefer my old teachers library over public ones any day, everything he had was worth reading.

I have read slaughter house five, animal farm, lord of the flies, and fear and loathing. If you are interested in a very complex, but rewarding read, you should try "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski. The organization is hard, but it just takes some dedication to read every single thing. Thanks for the others, I'll add them to my list.

You never read 1984?! < thats one of the most important novels of the 20th century < a very typical george orwell novel (anti-authoritarian-like animal farm but darker)

Re: Probably won't see me in the servers for a while

Well while we're talking about books, I've read quite a few in my day. Namely, I spent a good bit of my junior and high school class time reading. I tended to finish my work quickly and get bored, so I needed to find something to fill my time, besides making snide, albeit hilarious, comments towards my teachers. I, of course, ran through the Harry Potter collection, then ventured through a few Josh Grisham novels. Most notably, "The Rainmaker", "The Brethren", "The Runaway Jury", and "The Firm". The movies based off of Rainmaker and Runaway Jury did the books no justice and both should definitely be read. My favorite of the list was The Brethren though. I'm not big into reading novels written before I'd say the 1900's just because I typically don't like having to decrypt what the author is trying to get at (i.e. Shakespeare). I will not argue, however, that he is most definitely the best play writer of all time, I just don't like that style of writing. I've also, read all of Dan Brown's books, and would have to say, all of them, except "Digital Fortress", were awesome reading's. There's also a foursome of books called "The Fallen" that I read my senior year of high school that I thought were pretty good written by Thomas Sniegoski. Heres a link that you can look them up from: http://www.sniegoski.com/fallen.html. There's one more book that I read in high school about the angel Gabriel that I can't remember the title to. I'm going to see if I can find it and I'll post it on here if I can.

    Regards,
    Ryan

I found it as soon as I hit the submit button. The name of the book is "Archangel" written by Sharon Shinn. I thought it was a very well written piece of literature well quite detailed mental pictures painted with the writers words.
