The passing of a Canadian Legend...

    Sad news guys...

Let me preface this by saying that I am huge into equine racing and eventing. I just got back from a horse fair last night, and was upset that I didn't get the chance to meet Eric Lamaze. Then I found out...

Hickstead, the horse on which Canadian rider and World Champion Eric Lamaze won his title, has died.

"On November 06, 2011, at a competition in Verona, Italy, Hickstead collapsed shortly after finishing a round. Hickstead tragically passed away"

Some may think this is just another (Canadian) horse, but Hickstead and Eric Lamaze brought Canadian athletes to the worlds attention as global champions. While I do not expect you all to be as into equine news as I, it really is a tragedy. To me it is especially important as I was present the first time Eric Lamaze and Hickstead rode together, and started winning for the Canadian teams!

Eric Lamaze grew up in a broken home. He has said that drugs came in and out more regularly than the mail, and for him to rise above his problems and become a World Champion is a remarkable, inspiring story. He and Hickstead made a fantastic team, and because of these unfortunate events our team has lost two of its best athletes this year.

    R.I.P Hickstead,
    Canadian Legend.

Don't really keep up with this sport or anything, but I have had horses in the past. Very gentle, neat animals.
