    Sony's Playstation Network was hacked.

    Yeah, you read that right. The hacker now has all the info including login (username and password) for EVERY PSN MEMBER, and this possibly includes credit card numbers, but Sony is not sure of that just yet.

    the sad part is, this seems like it was the result of a DDoS attack! I mean, COME ON SONY. You're THAT vulnerable to DDoS? And on top of that, NONE OF THE USER DATA WAS ENCRYPTED, so once the hacker was inside, he just took all the info without a problem. How idiotic can you be?!?!

    Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

    Re: Sony's Playstation Network was hacked.

    Email from Playstation.

    ===================================
    PlayStation(R)Network
    ===================================

    Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer: We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

    1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

    2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and

    3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by rebuilding our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

    We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

    Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password, login, password security answers, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data may have been obtained, including purchase history and billing address (city, state/province, zip or postal code). If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained.

    For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them as well.

    To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.

    We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any additional questions.

    Sincerely,

    Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment

    Yeah it was a few or more days ago. The bad thing isn't that he has unknown numbers. The bad thing is that he single-handedly got Sony to shut down the network until further notice. Which is really displaying the maturity of the faculty at Sony's PlayStation Division.

    Anonymous is claiming credit for the hack. Sony is a shit company, and probably deserved it.

    i dont play my ps3 very often but i do like to rent movies on the psn and it was down and ticked me off :icon_evil: netflix still works, i dont know what this anonymous guy's reasoning is. I think i remember Geohot (the infamous hacker) was warring with sony cuz he was ticked that the linux os option was killed by sony. If his reason is something along those lines i think it is pretty stupid. Consoles have always been closed systems . I mean how cool can linux on a friggin playstation be??
    This dude is going to end up in jail for some silly sh**. I would rather rob an armored car, at least that would give u more street cred in jail.
    Any way i guess i should thank him for saving me $3.99 on a movie that prolly sucked.

    yeah it was, but when I wrote this they JUST released that it was actually hacked and not "maintenance" as they originally claimed. They knew it was hacked from the beginning but they waited 6 days to let people know their info was compromised.

    Anonymous is a group of hackers. From what I understand they hacked it because Sony's security was shit, and they wanted to make Sony's IT department look like a bunch of dumb asses (which they are). I have protested with Anonymous before, and most of them are good people, and a blast to hang around.

    why again do they "deserve" to be hacked. this is a F2P online community. if these hero hackers are such big $h!t lets see them shut down XBL.

    i hate hearing about hackers being bad ass just cause they can. use those skills to benefit something, not to crap all over a bunch of players

    I agree with Somatose. do something rather than hurt all of us for fun and humor. i can think of about 20 different things to do besides hack Sony's Network.
