I'm a game gaming keypad user myself... any plain old keyboard sits on my desktop but for gaming I use an (older now) ideazon z fang.

There's a lot of newer ones that have way more features around now too like this one from Razer:

I definitely feel that having all 10 number keys and several programmable keys (you can even customize them for each individual game) in close reach to the wasd keys like this helps give you and edge... especially in fps's.

I'm using the Logitech G15 Keyboard and love it. During Battlefield, it displays your score on the tiny LCD monitor on the keyboard.

Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

I think he would need a keyboard with normal buttons because of school work and writing ;)

If you're going to pay like $70 for that key pad, you're better off just buying the G15 keyboard. I've seen it onsale at newegg in the US for $55 but since I live in Canada, I bought mine for about $70. Plus this is one of the few keyboards that light up orange :icon_mrgreen:

Are these gamepads movement programmable. That is are the movements left, right, forward, backward changeable from the standard W,A,S,D (or whatever). Because when I read the reviews I got the impression those were static but that the rest of the keys were.(programmable). I use A - crouch, S -left, D - right, F - forward, and G - backward (all fingers in a straight line). This has always been a problem when playing on someone else's rig. Logitech I think actually stated they were static. (customer reviews).

There are two ways to program the keys... you can use the software that comes with the keyboard to map the keys to ANY key you want, and you can do this specific to each game individually with game specific profiles... Secondly you can always leave the keymapping alone and just go into the game to remap the controls to whatever the keypad is mapped to by default... the moral of the story is that by default the keys on these keypads act just like a second normal keyboard and are labeld with the default keys (usually wasd etc). You can see the default keys in this pic of my fang. Notice the fang is one of the few pads like this that is ambidextrous too, +1 for the lefties.

there is no reason why you can't just buy a cheap standard keyboard along with a game keypad, plus when you're not gaming you can move the game keypad off your desk for more desk space etc. Personnaly I use a Microsoft comfort curve 2000 and the ZFang sits off to the left.

You can even get a normal keyboard with a gamepad built in too!!

    Re: Keyboard

the thing i never liked about the G15 is that its freaking huuuge.. and having macro keys way off to the side and no where near WASD seemed like a waste of space. When it comes to pc gaming, whether is warcraft or an FPS, taking your fingers off the WASD home position for even a second to press one of those side keys is a huge disadvantage imho. You should have all the keys you need within reach without ever picking up your hand or stretching your fingers too far from WASD... for example, this makes moving with wasd while at the same time using another finger to hit a number key for one button switching of weapons so much faster and fluid.

anywho, on the Logitech G series, if you've got the cash, they do have a bundle that has the G19 and a gaming mouse plus a G13 game pad here:). Both keyboards have an LCD display customizable to each game too heheh, pimpin, too hardcore for me though.

I have the G15.. the NEWER version. They cut down the number of programmable keys and they are right next to the tab/caps lock/etc. Much closer. I really like this keyboard.

I'm going to pull out my worm drive saw and cut a keyboard in half and duct tape it to the arm of my chair.
