New GPU help?

Basically I was in the BF2 server today when I started seeing artifacts appearing on my screen. So basically I'm not really even going to try to fix it because my graphics card was due for an upgrade a few years ago. I just want your oppinions on the 6870 and the 6970 and which you think I should get?

I have the 6870, and I can run everything in max settings perfectly. I really don't see the point in spending extra money to get a 6970 because the 6870 is just fine for now. I'm gonna crossfire mine when games get more demanding graphics-wise.

Just throwing this out there, but I have a 5770 and play everything at max. Could save you a few bucks. Not gonna break any FPS records with it, but I get an extra 10 -15 frames if I overclock it.

Yes, the 6970 is much better, but it's overkill at this point in time in my opinion. If you want to get that instead of the 6870 (which is $240 on average), it's gonna cost you $110 more. Like I said, my 6870 can handle anything at max with TONS of extra fps to spare. I'm talking average 90-120 in BC2, 75-100 in Black Ops, nearly 300 all the time in HL2 (lol), and borderlands at 75-100.

Kinda off-topic, but this popped into my head. Scientific studies say the human eye can't notice a difference in anything above 30 fps. I call that bullcrap. I notice a HUGE difference between 30fps and 60. above 60 I can't notice a difference, but if it drops below that, I can tell.

There IS a point when things become overkill... $700 for the absolute most bleeding edge GPU for example would be a bit of overkill... but the extra $100 for the 6970 is a good investment imho, it shows 40% more performance scaling than the 6870 in crossfire and handles higher resolutions much better.

When it comes to PC gaming, the more you spend (to a point) the longer you get to wait until your next upgrade... by the time this thread is dead some new game will be out that will bring the 6970 to its knees and the 7920 (fictional) will be out for $350 so imho: if u can swing the pricetag, you'll get more years out of your gaming pc if you put that extra into it.

well i think any of these new gpu's that you guys get are overkill for your system. as most do not use them to there potential.

i was going to upload a video at my resolution but a 1 min video was 2.8 gb in size

well yeah if you use eyefinity go for 2 6970's

Just get a 6850, and OC it up to a 6870, then its practically the same thing.

Ok, I managed to find a store that matches the price of newegg and takes 15% off plus a $15 rebate. Ended up paying around $315 or something like that for a 6970

Not a site a computer parts and repair store in my area. Sad part is that i have no idea what it's called but the $15 rebate is if you go with sapphire

I think I might double up on my 5770's, or get a 6850 and sell off the 5770. I am getting the i7 2600k and a new mobo to go along with it when I get my tax return.
