    New Car System

I've decided to throw some subs in my truck and replace the stock speakers. I'm looking to grab two Kicker CVR 12's with a BOSS CW2000M amp pushing them, but I have no idea what speakers I want to replace the stocks with. I've got 6.5's in the doors and 4x10 in the back two pillars. There's openings for 4x6's in the dash, although there were never any speakers installed. I think they just use the same dash for all the different trims because my old regular cab S-10 (I've got an extended cab now) how 4x6's installed since it didn't have the 4x10's in the back. Anyways, I think I'll replace the two door speakers and put in some tweeters, so I'm looking for suggestions. I would prefer to keep it below $100.

for best results, always go with speakers of the same brand as the amp. I've had LOTS of people tell me it makes a huge difference.

Actually the subs and amp are a similar set that I've used in the past. Same subs, just their 2009 models where I had 06 models before and the amp is a little bigger, but my last set I had underpowered anyways.

ugh, kickers have always rubbed me the wrong way. back when i had a system i had 2 12" Infinity Reference powered by an old school PPI Art Series amp. very simple set up, but my god did it pound. not only that, the responsiveness from the infinity's were immaculate.

remember you can save a lot of money by shopping for older equipment, just because something is new on the market, doesnt make it the best.

I'm getting the Kickers for $85 a piece and I've got experience with them in the past as mentioned so I already know how they'll sound. I'm mainly looking for advice on the 6.5's to replace the stock speakers.

Match impedence 4, 8, 16 whatever your amp puts out.
Round speakers define music beter than ovals.

Sounds fun, except for the money part.

Also alot can be done with enclosers. Let us know what you come up with.

OK, so here's what I'm looking at right now:

    Kicker 12" CVR's: Here.
    Infinity Kappa 60.9CS: Here.
    Boss PH1500M: Here.

I think I might just run one of the 12's for now and if it turns out I want more, pick another one up in October. For now I'm going to run the Kappa's off just the amp'd output of my headunit and pick up a 200-300W amp to feed them babies in October. I'll be building the box for the subs myself as I did for my last setup.

NICE!! those Kappa components are gonna kick arse.

You drive a truck you say? Then yea, 1 12" is plenty for a truck cab, so id say upgrade to 2 when you feel you really need to. One 12" in a hatchback alone pounds, i imagine a trucks cab, with those Infinity fronts, you're set quite nicely.

god i needs a new system. all thats left of what i had is the wiring, my head unit (few year old Pioneer, lots of neat equalization features) and the box for my old Infinitys.

Good car audio is like a drug. its so great, and you get used to it after a while, then once you dont have it, life sucks.

Yeah, hopefully those Kappa's will sound good when I get them in and sound great after I amp them up. I had a '95 S-10 before with two of those Kicker 12's being pushed by a Boss 2000W amp. Had to custom make the box so the seats wouldn't be sitting straight up. Man those things would rattle crap off the walls and did. I sold the amp to a pawn shop that mostly handled audio stuff after a "friend" decided to blow the speakers for me and they hooked it up to some 15 (didn't read the brand). When they turned it on and crank the bass up from the amp some wiring harnesses and the install kits (that you use to fit aftermarket head units to your stock radio space) fell off a shelf. The dude gave me $50 more than what I paid for it and it was about two years old. I think I've pretty much decided to get just one for now and throw another in later on.

If you are going with Boss...why not a 5 channel? Takes up less space, and still has enough power:

I hate having 2 amps, but that's just me. I have personally owned this Kicker amp, it was awesome:

Infinity's are awesome for components, definitely go with those! I will post pics of my setup, this is my 3rd car, I don't drive it everyday.

    Re: New Car System

i used to run 2 12 p3's dvc with a directed amp at 1800 rms @ 1 ohm that pounded then i sold that car and the kid who bought it wanted the system to go with it. that the only rockford system i ever had

i have found when it comes to bass it is all personal preference. for interiors i have always liked polk. have always sounded crisp when put on a 4 channel. as for subs
whatever sounds good in the smallest possible box(i golf so need trunk space). with a truck cab you usually only need one sub with a nicely built ported box. i usually build them
with an air channel at the bottom and sub on top with a grill over sub so you can still use the space.
