If ur in the search for new stuff both tigerdirect and newegg have memorial day specials running right now and i seen a cpl motherboard cpu combos. several for intel and several for amd. id go amd but thats cuz im a penny pincher and i can get great value without sacrificing too much top end.

haha wake up King! lol jk, may be he has a 32 bit windows edition, and since he's going to upgrade the RAM to up to 4 gb's he will definitely require a 64 bit windows version so it will be able to recognize the total Ram.

also..idk if this has happened to anyone else before...when I put the new video card in my computer and booted it up, when windows started said "your computer hardware has drastically changed since the last boot, and requires windows to be activated again." no clue why this happened...had to get a freaking windows activator cuz both of my serial keys reached max usage :icon_neutral:

yeah but you can always re-activate either from windows or from an operator, the only reason i would guess he needs a new copy it's because he might have a 32 bit and will require a 64 bit version.

Since we both are norwegian i guess i can link you to the Komplett.no's upgrade page:
    http://www.komplett.no/k/kl.aspx?bn=10297
You'll most likely find something there that you can use...
And Diskusjon.no got a forum made for questions just like this one! ;) (not that i have any doubt in you guys :P)

with the i5 and lower i7s you'd get an intel socket 1156 motherboard, which supporsts up to 2 graphic cards and 16gb ddr3 ram at ~ $100 - $250
with the high end i7s you'd get an intel socket 1366 motherboard, which supports up to 4 graphics cards and 24gb ddr3 ram at ~ $200-$500

Intel i3, i5 and i7 are all currently better than AMD right now, while AMD is cheaper, they not nearly as powerful as any intel cpu.

Hm.. I always thought that AMD was very good... But thanks for the answers. I have to think it out a little more, cuz I dont have a job, and therefore hasnt got that much money. But as king said, I would also think that getting a quad core is a good idea. About that windows.. I have OEM, wich means that if i do major customizations to my computer, it will stop running. But all forms for piracy is stricktly forbidden in this house, and because my dad is an IT pro, he can always check wich sites i have been on without getting into my computer (I dont know how). And yes, my specs is in my sig.

Yes, we really aren't suppose to be discussing warez anyway on this forum.

Essentially if you need to build a new computer, you need it to be as low cost as possible so you have something to shoot for.

Foffkillz, download and run this little app: http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/pc-wizard/2010.1.94-setup.exe. It'll tell us everything we need to know about your computer except your power supply. When it loads up, just right-click in the main window that comes up, click "Select All", right-click again, and click "Copy". Then you can paste what you get on here. From there we can make some suggestions on what to do. The biggest thing is we'll need to know what you budget would be.

King, even if he retains his current HDD, if he swaps mobo's he would have to re-install Windows. I just did some research and per Windows, you can change anything in a computer except the motherboard and keep your OEM copy of Windows. If you swap the mobo, per Windows, you have to get a new license.

Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

All intel i3, i5 and i7 are quad core. If you want to get even more wait for the i9's or get the i7 980x (they are 6-core cpus) but the only one out right now is the 980x at it costs $1000
