    Computer upgrade...

I have thought a little, and I found out I need something new for my computer. There are two things I need to upgrade, wich is CPU and memory.. I have an AMD Athlon 64 2X Dual Core 4000+ @ 2.10 GHz, and 2 gigs of kingston (ddr?) memory. The problem is that if I buy a new CPU, I have to buy a new motherboard, cuz the old one is barely powerful enough to run the current CPU, and if I change motherboard, I also have to buy a new copy of windows... I dont have that much knowledge on computers, so I had been much appreciated with any help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Frode.

If you're worried about having to get a new copy of windows, talk to (TKC) ME. he is an outstanding legally biding citizen. And if your problem is you don't have a windows 7 disc, there are plenty of torrents you can download for windows 7.

Give us your whole computer setup. There's a lot that goes into upgrading. If you know the model number's for all the parts, that would be just excellent. If it's a pre-built (i.e. Dell, HP) just give us the make and model number.

I didn't even look. I'd still like to know what PSU he's got. As for Windows, do you still have the install disk or anything? PM me and we can talk about that a little more.

Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

why would u need to buy a new os? ud keep same hard drive unless im missing something? ive been up for 40 hrs out of the last 44 so if im half asleep and if i missed something sorry. as for ur motherboard barely powering ur current chip what do you mean? If ur in the search for new stuff both tigerdirect and newegg have memorial day specials running right now and i seen a cpl motherboard cpu combos. several for intel and several for amd. id go amd but thats cuz im a penny pincher and i can get great value without sacrificing too much top end.

I think he meant that the current processor he has is the highest processor that his mobo supports.

    Re: Computer upgrade...

could u give us more info for exactly what ur looking for? id suggest upping to a quad core. what type of kingstom mem do you have? cuz there are severeal motherobard/cpu combos and if we could find one that worked with ur current mem u could just pick up another gig or two. if ur gonna go new on all id suggest then upping to a ddr3 compatible board. and they have 4 gigs of ddr3 on sale for $90.

    i found this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... etailspecs

it only has 1 pci-e 16x slot so if ur lookign to sli in the future once again this wouldnt be for u. so what exactly u want would help us out alot.

If you don't know what kind of RAM you have, download this handy tool called CPU-Z: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

It scans your mobo and gives info about your mobo, processor, ram, caches, and graphics card. It'll tell you what kind of ram and what speed it is too.

It would be better to use "Balarc" http://www.belarc.com/ba5.html?B, it will give you not only your CPU but your whole computer info. go try it. :)

    Re: Computer upgrade...

What type of upgrades are you looking for? Casual or Enthusiast? I'd Recommend getting either intel i5 or intel i7, i5's are mid-range, and i7s are mid-very high end (mid = 800 series ~ $200, high = 940+ series ~ $300 to $1000)
with the i5 and lower i7s you'd get an intel socket 1156 motherboard, which supporsts up to 2 graphic cards and 16gb ddr3 ram at ~ $100 - $250
with the high end i7s you'd get an intel socket 1366 motherboard, which supports up to 4 graphics cards and 24gb ddr3 ram at ~ $200-$500

Intel i3, i5 and i7 are all currently better than AMD right now, while AMD is cheaper, they not nearly as powerful as any intel cpu.

haha wake up King! lol jk, may be he has a 32 bit windows edition, and since he's going to upgrade the RAM to up to 4 gb's he will definitely require a 64 bit windows version so it will be able to recognize the total Ram.

also..idk if this has happened to anyone else before...when I put the new video card in my computer and booted it up, when windows started said "your computer hardware has drastically changed since the last boot, and requires windows to be activated again." no clue why this happened...had to get a freaking windows activator cuz both of my serial keys reached max usage :icon_neutral:
