hey gun slinger i did some digging on google on that error and found this on a forum:
Go to the Run box in your start menu and type "dxdiag".
Flip through each page and check if there are any errors. You might need to update your DirectX, or your graphics card drivers.
Sounds to me like an outdated driver. after you run the dxdiag tool, there is a display tab. click that and on the left side it tells you your video card manufacturer and type. On the right tells you the driver you're using and the date. If the driver's outdated, go to your video card manufacturer's website and download the latest driver.
Also your DirectX might need to be updated. If you're using Windows XP then you can get the final DirectX release here:
