In fact, life only gets tougher once you get older, so be prepared for a bit of a letdown. While you do get to decide when you go to bed, what you'll eat, and other small things that kids complain about, in the end, your responsibilities will increase quite a bit so yeah, I can stay up until 2am and I do that sometimes, but the next day I'm useless at work, don't get much done, and generally regret it.

Something for you T......This is true T, it's all exausting and at times. Kids seem to drain EVERYTHING from you... but in the real picture.... and in the END of the 2AM shift with the kids.... and before you go off to bed... you look in on them one more time.....caress their forehead, give them a kiss on the cheek, wisper in their ear to have happy dreams..... It's THOSE precious moments you'll remember forever. Life DOES get tougher as you get older... in several ways. You birth them.... you raise them.... you provide for them.... you protect them... you give them EVERYTHING you can..... then...... you have to let them go......... their own way. Then through ALL the LOVE and guidance you provided them... they return to you!! In the end when you look back on all those 2AM sittings, you'll realize those were the GOOD TIMES.... ENJOY THEM ALL!!! PEACE, :) Pajamas

Unfortunately I don't have biological children.. I have 4 step kids. But the same is still true. But I wasn't really talking about taking care of kids, I'm just talking about all the responsibilities of adulthood. Bills, worrying about your kids, dealing with difficult children, worrying how you are going to pay for Christmas... let me tell you, as a kid Christmas ROCKS! As an adult, most of us, the holidays are quite stressful. Don't know how you're going to pay for it, fixing up the house.. blah. I'm not a fan of Christmas anymore.. but you know, you do it for the kids.

Nothing like working all day, coming home to cook a dinner and have your kids say.. yeah I don't want to eat that. Gee thanks.. whatever punk cause I really wanted to work all day, then come home and work some more just so I can be told it's not good enough. Bite me! hahah

Haha if I pulled that crap my parents would make me sit there until I ate it. And if bedtime rolled around, I went to bed hungry and woke up the next morning and guess what? My mom would get it out of the fridge and make me eat it for breakfast or lunch until I ate it. You should try that T3. It works well and will teach your kids to appreciate what you cook for them and not whine about it if they don't like it.

I know that story Crimson. My mom had me do that a few times when I was younger. I developed the skill to force down gross tasting food fast. The faster the better and just chase it down with some water or other liquid. Or you could tell them to make the dinner themselves (depending how old they are that is). If they don't like what you make than they can make what they like. I'm sure after one or two times of making dinner and seeing how annoying it can be to make and clean up afterward they will better enjoy your food.

Unfortunately these are my wifes kids... at a younger age she let them decide what they wanted to eat. She knows she made a mistake but its too late now.

My wife has an 18 year old daughter. I came into the picture when she was 11 and spoiled fricken rotten. Yeah...we fight like cats and dogs, and she does the whole "well..you made your dinner, where's mine?" crap. I laid down the law once she started doing the "I'm an adult, I can do whatever I want!!" I simply told her that now that she is an adult, she can get herself to college, she can pay her own cell phone bill and if she doesn't like what I cook for dinner (She's horribly picky), then she can go out and buy her own food and cook it herself. She doesn't like it, but it seems to be working out for me.

Yes... all but one of my step kids are picky.

It really doesn't matter how old you are.. if you are 50 years old and I'm letting you live under my roof... guess who makes the rules? It's the 41 year old who is paying the mortgage. Definitely not some 18 year old who doesn't make enough money to live in a shack with a scenic view.
