Windows 7

Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone has any feedback on Windows 7. I have been running XP 32bit and would like to move to 7 but dont know anything about it... All the reviews I have read are good .. I have also read it gets released on the 22nd...

All I can tell you is what i've read and supposedly its the best windows yet. Runs leaner and handles gaming with no problem. I'm sure you've read all that though.

Well, you need a fast computer with lost of RAM to run it, I downloaded the RC version of it and you need lots of RAM because it uses a lot of resources and also you need a goood GPU. When I was running it, i had it in VMWare desktop yea..it slowed down my laptop quite a bit..

I got Windows 7 Professional right now (full version, got it free from my school) and it runs great. I havent really noticed any performance issues with any games or programs (only have a few games installed so far, no DirectX 10 though so cant compare it to vista), but it does have a better User Interface. It loads up quicker too.

But if your going to get Windows 7, i'd recommend you install the 64bit version (It should still support most 32bit applications, and gets you ready for future software and hardware. If you get The Professional or Ultimate versions it has a XP-mode where you can run XP under a virtual environment. Windows 7 has much better compatibility with older software, unlike Vista.

Note: Since you currently have a 32bit OS, you have to do a clean install for installation, upgrade installs don't work when upgrading from 32 to 64 bit versions or vice versa.

Yeah, you probably want a backup external hard-drive to store all you music, pictures and videos though. Pretty much backup your entire Documents folder in XP that should save all those and any saved games or anything else you may have.

Ive been running windows 7 for some time now and it is very smooth. Soon the launch takes place and i get to introduce it in a party here for 10 people. The package has just been sent to me with my copy of windows 7 edition for the host. I really like it and am glad i have a computer it works with.
64 bit works better with 2 gigs memory but much better with at least 4 gigs. The 32 bit edition can do with 2 gigs memory just fine.

When I tried it, windows 7 is awesome. It has all the features of vista but dropped all the problems with drivers and installers. You just need quite a bit of RAM for it to stay smoothly running. Oh yeah, and back up anything that you have downloaded or special files on a usb or passport since you will probably have to format the hard drive so you won't have any problems.

Yeah its gotta be hella leet cuause I have heard of guys with torrented versions of it and they even say it works and those are spyware infected so they must of finally done something right at microsoft.

I see they will sell on Best buy win 7 home edition upgrade for $119 is that for users that already have Vista? The upgrade ver.? What if i have XP? And is it 64 bit?

they have a non upgrade version of win 7 home edition for $199 yikes!

Then they have a pro version $299 non upgrade and also an ultimate ver. Non upgrade for $319! ? What's the difference?

I think i'm ok with XP, it still looks pretty for me LOL

After windows 7 is windows 8 then 9 then 10 and Gates keeps getting more rich LOL I'm moving until my programs don't work with windows XP at all. And I don't think that's going to happen soon, XP is very fast and very stable LOL because the pc I think is fast, and XP is doing a fine job for me no need to spend a lot more money. I'll do it if they wouldn't are so expensive, imagine if windows 7 ultimate ver. would be $60 bucks, he'll yeah! I know programmers need to be paid, but it's basically the same stuff just some few differences.

I have Vista in another computer but i have it because the laptop came with it, it's the same as XP! Not much difference, Win 7 it's the same! Yeah win. 7 uses less resourses but you need to put more ram I have a lot of ram running XP and it doesn't look like it's taking lot of resources, it's fast!

I just think most stuff I do in XP right now won't cease to work if I don't spend money on win 7 I'm sure I can wait to see what comes next after win 7 and still have XP.

An upgrade disc can be used if you have a previous FULL install disc of XP or Vista, otherwise you need a full install disc.

The only problem with an upgrade version disc is that if you need to reformat your computer for whatever reason, you'll need to install a previous Windows version (so XP or vista) first before installing Windows 7 again.
It can be a hassle, trust me i did it a few times, but i guess $90 difference is a steep price to pay for perhaps more convenience if something does happen to your computer in the future.

I believe that is incorrect. You can do a clean install from a upgrade disc. Just put the upgrade disc in and boot. It will ask you to put your full install disc (your old windows disc) in the drive shortly after it starts so you can prove you have one, then it will ask you to remove the disc and put the upgrade disc back in, then it will take off and do a clean install.

*UPDATE* I am wrong, at least as far as Vista is concerned. I bought a full version so didn't know they had disabled that feature, however there might be ways around it if you google it. I found something that claims it is legal but does break the EULA. The site is well known and respectable. That is all I will say.
