Bwahahaha, I wasn't arguing anything. I was correcting you. Agreed that he would need more RAM should he suddenly get the it to get into some massive video/imaging editing, but I don't foresee that being the purpose behind the GPU upgrade, should he in actuality decide to get a new GPU. Secondly, I never once mentioned anything about you being a kid and me being an adult, so I don't see how this got turned into a conversation about me discriminating against your age. More than anything else, my entire "flame" from above stemmed from you, very negatively from how I read it, telling him you didn't ask for his computer specs. Maybe a class for internet writing is in order here to learn how to properly get your point across. Typically, if said sentence was meant as a sarcastic joke of some sort, you would have followed it up with "LOL".."LMAO"..."j/k" or something of that sort.

Easy for a kid to say. God help you when real life comes your way.

Normally I get frustrated when a person fails to answer or acknowledge what I said before, so anger set in. I never said it was sarcastic, I clearly called my post "...amateur, angry..." because I guarantee there are other people on Earth who get angry when a statement is replied to and fails to even well relate to that statement.

RAM: Don't need more right now, I'm not doing anything massively RAM-intensive, starting into a little montage-making for now, only 1440 x 900 resolution and that's it. If I get a bigger monitor, then yes more RAM would be a good idea.

Pengwin wrote:And 4GB of ram is not super high end by any means, which will need a tiny bit of an upgrade to match the rest of the setup that needed upgrading due to the oven you installed into your case.

I never said my rig was "super high end," but it is a HUGE improvement from the 2.4GHz P4 I used to use. Like I said above, the extra RAM won't be necessary unless I get a bigger monitor and record my montage clips at a higher res. And you (or I for that matter) have absolutely no idea how hot the 6990 will run since AMD has not even sent out drivers to the tech companies yet to do performance benchmarks. If you look at this picture, you'll see Techgage's temperature results for their tested cards (this one was focused on the Sapphire 6870 Vapor-X, which is why it's highlighted). The 5970 runs at 42C idle/ 86C load. So, yes the 6990 judging from that dual-GPU card may run hot, but I have pretty adequate airflow so I should be ok, as I explain at the bottom of the post.

As for the PSU upgrade, you are right on that one. I would need a more powerful one. My 730W can support 2x 6870's just fine with about 150W to spare, but the 6990 [s]by itself[/s] combined with everything else in my rig should draw ~840W (using AMD's claim that the 6990 is roughly the same power as 2x 6970's). I was actually going to buy a 1000W Corsair PSU and another 6870 once Crysis 2 is fully released, but after playing the demo and it runs fine EVEN when recording at full res with FRAPS, I found it's not necessary to get those right now. Maybe later this year when BF3 is released I'll get the 1000W and a 6990.

And hey Don, he did say this:

So he did acknowledge that without good fan placement and/or quantity, things would get really warm. Peng, my total fan placement is this: 3x 120mm fans in all. One in front as intake, one on side panel as intake, and one at the rear as exhaust. I guess the total is 4 if you count the one on my Hyper 212+ cooler. My idle temp for CPU (mind that it IS overclocked) is at the moment 28C. It varies and stays anywhere from 24C (rarely) to 30C. Load it never goes above ~43C - 44C. I still have a good bit of room in the case, OH and it also helps that my PSU has a huge fan in it helping to cool too. :icon_mrgreen:
