the 6850 is gonna get you anywhere from a 10fps to 25 fps boost from the 5770 if you decide to go with that. (Source) Nice choice ;)

I went ahead and got the 6970 and was wondering, because of various discussions in the forums, which catalyst versions would be better. I heard that 10.12 actually drops your FPS any ideas?

DON'T get 10.12. it does drop your fps. it cut mine more than in half. 10.11 works fine for me, should work fine for you too.

Yeah, but 2 - 5770's will be better than a 6850, from what I have read. It is supposed to rival a 6870.

I am going with this mobo:

I may just go with the i5 2500k, since it is about $100 less. I don't really need the i7.

If I only played BC2 and NBA 2k11 then I'd agree that 10.11 is better but I have to use 10.12 for the added forced AA in NFS Hot Pursuit. Basically the game would crash if you tried to force AA with 10.11 or older but 10.12 implemented a fix that allows forced AA without crashing (it makes the game look a whole lot better since the game can't set AA on for some reason). So I've just dealt with the other games getting slightly odd at times; NBA sometimes doesn't show people's hair but I'm not sure if it's a game problem or driver problem. I've not personally seen any problem with BC2 and losing performance though.

Yeah, they just didn't add a option in game to force AA or AF but ATI's drivers can without causing a crash in-game (Nvidia hasn't produced one that works yet to do the same). But that's the only qualm with the game and easily by-passable.
