yes, but going above dual crossfire/SLI (tri/quad), there really isn't too much of a performance boost, so it's a waste of money to go above that. This mobo has 2 PCIe 2.0 x16 slots so that's all I'll need for a dual-crossfire 6870. And yes I have considered the cost, I can buy two 6870's for the price of one GTX 480, and run them with less power consumption and lower temps than if I went with SLI GTX 480. I've never seen why you would need to run tri/quad SLI/Crossfire..2 high-end cards can run about anything in mid to high settings depending on the resolution, and I only have a 1440 x 900 monitor.

AMD is suppose to release their Flagship 6000 series soon and that should drive down the price of all other cards.
Keyword: "supposed." Nothing ever gets released when it's supposed to; it always gets pushed back for some reason, if I wait for the holidays, then something else will be announced and I'll be waiting for that, etc. It's a never-ending cycle. There is no real "ideal time" to buy a computer since it's constantly changing. You just gotta make a decision and go with it.
*UPDATE*
Talked with my mom this morning and we came to an agreement. I payed off the laptop in full today, so we agreed that if she went ahead and ordered the build with her Bill Me Later account, I'd pay it off in increments with each paycheck, and if I do get the scholarship money next semester, I'll use that to pay off whatever's left. It takes a few days for her BML account to be able to make purchases again, so next week is the earliest I'd get it, and it's actually gonna happen this time.
maybe I can burn my old p4....
