    Enter 4K gaming

223 is now gaming in 4K.

    Monitor: ACER CB280HK 28" 3840x2860 @60HZ 1ms input lag $300 Costco (currently $150 off until 12/20, normally $449)

    First impressions: compared to 1080p

    PROS:
    *noticeably crisper
    *colors more vibrant
*text is smaller but still easy to read
*video looks amazing and more fluid
    *COST of Monitor
*games look amazing, noticing detail I haven't noticed in 1080p

    CONS:
    *demanding on GPU and CPU
*requires system to be higher end and working at top efficiency
*going back to my 1080 monitor looks fuzzy now compared to 4K
    GAME RESULTS:
    BF4 4K @30hz medium/ultra settings 60-100 fps
    Grand Theft Auto 5 4K @30hz high/ultimate settings 60-75 fps

note : was sold the wrong display port cable (rated for 1080), was unable to get 60hz working due to bandwidth issues.

New cable is ordered and will do update with 60hz

    Conclusion:
If you have a higher end pc I recommend getting a 4K monitor. You can always return it if you are not impressed. My system pretty good but I know others have better set ups and should have no issues running 4K at playable framerates. 4K even on settings less than what you are used to on 1080 look better than 1080 settings maxed out. Furthermore setting resolution to 1080 and scaling to 125% on this monitor looks way better than 1080 in BF4 and get 90+fps.

I don't mind the 4k move, but I only see it's purpose in screens bigger than 32"...but that's just my opinion. :)

    UPDATE:

New cable is in (rated for 4K @60hz)

Results are amazing. BF4 looks better than ever.

    BF4 settings at medium/high. 3840x2160 @60hz using Mantle, AA off , v-sync off , scaling 100%

Frame rates range from 48fps in demanding sequences to 70-80fps in less demanding sections.
    Average FPS 60-65

I had my doubts about playable framerates but the R9-290 is handling it so far and if I was running crossfire i'm sure I could get ultra settings at 60+ fps. Perhaps my next purchase...another R9-290.

Will have to do some benchmarks and get some temps but thus far I am very happy with the decision to go 4K. I agree with Dfire this 28" display is plenty enough real estate at 3840x2160, no need to go bigger than 32"-34".

I think you completely missed my point. 4k is great for anything 32" or bigger, small er than that? Whats the point? 1080p is plenty enough. But is you want 4k on a 5" smartphone screen, more power to ya ;)

I did miss ur point. Did not read it right. :icon_embarrassed_3: Large displays in 4K currently have too low of a response time to game competitivly. I looked at that before buying my monitor, plus you have to have hdmi 2.0 on your graphics card, which I do not. I have my 1080p sitting alongside my 4K and I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt the 4K monitor has a much better looking picture. I have noticed the difference the most in places where there are curved lines or circles. Recticles in the Holosight look much cleaner and there are no jaggies what so ever. Colors are also more vibrant and acurate. You might give it a go yourself , see if you can see a difference. I will get off my soapbox now.

Yes because viewing a 4k image on a 1080p monitor proves it, LOL.

I don't understand what you are asking here. :icon_question:

I'm assuming your asking about how I was only getting 30hz. It was due to a display port cable that wasn't rated to carry 4K at all. I was lucky to get 30hz. A proper cable solved my problem.

Here is what my monitor was doing...

    Looks good.

Just FYI.. if you use the upload attachment option when you post, to add pictures, it goes to a server that TKC pays for (not this web server) and it stored there. I've noticed that if you use hosting services the images tend to disappear after a while. Also, you can't embed the picture in the post the way you did it.
