Are you planning to move to windows 8

Windows 8 is coming out on Oct 26th and i'm curious to see who is planning on moving to it.
i myself refuse. Microsoft has made windows 8 a closed operating system. all software has to get certified by Microsoft to run on the new OS and valve has flat out refused to get steam or any game certified so their is no point in moving. i'm sticking with windows 7 until support runs out then my desktop will be moved to Linux.

Im sticking with seven until hell freezes over. However, if Linux became a better gaming platform i would switch to Fedora. My laptop has been running Fedora for a while and I love it.

I think that its just closed for Windows RT - for the arm architecture. I'm running the full windows 8 release (RTM) on my desktop right now and quite frankly, I'm liking it. I've installed all of my previous windows 7 programs like steam, tf2, CS:GO, Adobe CS6, etc... I haven't had any problems with drivers, it boots up fast than windows 7 and haven't had anything crash at all.

When I tested out the beta for windows 8 and metro, I HATED IT! But microsoft added some more cools features to make everything more bearable. I would switch to linux, but Windows supports all the programs I need such as photoshop, after effects and more importantly, games.

Whenever I get more time on my hands, I plan to put windows 8 on my laptop too.

We kinda hit this on another post...

Because I'm tired of the start menu and taskbar, I'm either going Windows 8 or Linux (prefer Linux, if the commercial quality gaming picks up).

Knightwolf654, from your other post, you a cinnamon or Xfce fan then ?

i prefer the terminal! :PP
really right now all my Linux systems are Ubuntu servers. but out of those two i would rather have cinnamon.

windows 8 all versions are somewhat closed. in order for a program to be used in the metro UI or whatever they are calling it now, it has to be certified by Microsoft. those company's i listed in my first post are refusing to have this done because they feel that its the first step to becoming a completely closed operating system like apple's. the arm system is going to be boot locked.

also Gabe Newell from valve is in the process of moving to the Linux platform. all of the games produced by valve are planned to be ported over to Linux. this is believed to be because he and valve are disgusted by what Microsoft is doing.

Ya, I linked to that on that other post as well ... Looks like Left for Dead 2 is coming out real soon, and it has faster frame rates in Linux than in Windows, which just rocks ! :icon_cunning:

Never thought I'd see the day, but sure am glad Gabe has a softspot for Linux. It will be interesting to see what the OS world looks like in 3 years.

Bought Windows 8 Pro to see how I like it ... Direct download from Microsoft for the upgrade to pro was only $40 (through Jan 1).

If/when I go back to Linux, at least it's an educated choice...
Looks like they will release the beta for Steam on Linux next week, listing some titles as well (unofficially).

I can get Windows 8 for free through school and I don't even feel like trying it.

I was in the RC test, it was okay. But still not my cup of tea, I like 7 and plan to stick with it for a while.

Well I know I said I wasn't going to do it, but one of my friend's convinced my to do it, and hey students of my university get all Microsoft software for free. I will post later of how I've gotten used to it and like it, but initially I am like this app store and stuff.
