yay my new components came in

Ok so my new mobo/cpu arrived today, however i wont be able to get them together until at least the weekend maybe not till next tuesday. i work fri and mon and our deer hunting season opens this weekend. so unless i get my deer right away saturday morning ill probably be out freezing my butt off all weekend.

the mobo looks sweet in person. i also went with the same cpu fan i currently have which is the Zalman 9900max cnps. it keeps my current comp at 45-48C overclocked to 3.6. so im hoping it works for the 2600k as well. if not then ill find somethign different but im confident it'll be ok. just gonna run some benchmarks of current system then run benchmarks of new one to see the difference. hope i can get up around the level Plum gets.

That board freaking supports Ivy Bridge as well as Sandy Bridge!! No mobo upgrade needed when those CPU's come out! Very nice choice! So I'm guessing Ivy Bridge will also be the LGA 1155 socket? I never knew this...if that's the case then once Ivy Bridge comes out I could get one with my board! That's just hypothetical, though... I don't see myself needing another CPU for QUITE a while.

ASROCK is one company that all ways looks for future proofing there boards. they had a socket 939 board that had both a agp slot, pci-e slot and a special slot for a daughter board to handle a new socket as well!

Awesome king! This should get you closer indeed, maybe higher who knows. Ivy Bridge is socket 1155 but Ivy Bridge-e is socket 2011 like the current Sandy-e's.

The Ivy Bridge 22nm story gets even better. The new chip is socket LGA 1155 and it is socket compatible with the existing Sandy Bridge processors and Sugar Bay 2011 platform. Unfortunately we are quite sure that Cougar point PCH chipset of Sandy Bridge won’t support the new 22nm Ivy Bridge.

We are afraid that you will still need a new board. Even the Panther point PCH chipset is pin compatible with Cougar Point chipset of Sandy Bridge, but again this might help board manufactures to make boards faster, but end users will need to buy a new board.

well so far this is the biggest waste of time/money ever. i only played for like 5 mins but im getting 4 fps higher. and my computer is pretty hosed up. microsoft wont acknowledge my windows key now. no web browser will open certain webpages, like yahoo so its a good thing i have my phone to check my mail. im about to just say screw it all, spent the last 5 hrs assembling and troubleshooting.

possible dumb question, did you reinstall windows?

No I was hoping to avoid that. My download speed sucks so if I redo windows ill be downloading updates for the next week. Last time I swapped mobos I got away without having to do it so I was hoping id get lucky again. But if I dont get it situated tomoro thats what im gonna end up doing. I was just disgruntled about how little performance boost I got when I posted this.

you always have to reinstall windows when you swap out major components like that.

also windows wont recognize the cd key because when the motherboard and cpu are changed it thinks its in a whole new pc. you wont see a performance difference until you reinstall.

why would that have an impact on gaming performance? i understand that it should hopefully fix the webpage thing, but i think that was caused by loading drivers for my mobo that might have overwritten/ccorrupted drivers that were already there. i think adobe might be the culprit but not sure. now i just have to copy all my files and stuff over. thats what i hate about reinstalling.

when it comes to motherboard drivers, they for the most part merge with the kernel of the operating system. its impossible to get them out and without a fresh install will cause constant problems no matter what you do. this can impact gaming performance because the new cpu has to send processes to the gpu to execute, and if that has to send the same info to the gpu because it gets corrupt along the way due to the bad drivers you wont see any improvements and will eventually BSOD.

I tried swapping an AMD board to an Intel board a while ago on my brother's computer. The Intel was a lot faster but I didn't achieve that until I did a fresh Install.

haha, king, you're going to HAVE to reinstall windows from scratch. When I switched from AMD to Intel, the only original part in my PC was my HDD. NOTHING would work right until I reinstalled windows, and that includes gaming, web browsing, etc. I was getting a sh*t-ton of errors booting up, and nothing would work correctly. My gaming performance went DOWN even thought I had bought a new GPU as well. Trust me, ME and Knightwolf...after you reinstall windows, and a fresh clean install from a wiped HDD is recommended, you will notice the boost in performance.

Also..the last time you switched out major components like that, was the swap AMD - AMD? If so, that's why you had no issues. Going from AMD to Intel of vice versa requires a fresh install of windows.

yet another kick to the nuts - my backup is corrupt, yay me. now i get to spend 17 hrs downloading my games again. and all of my software is gone so ill have to redownload and reset all that up. maybe i can play next weekend.

oh and i still cant open yahoo or i found out any microsoft websites either. and i did all kinds of crap. dns flush, checking my fiirewalls and all of my privacy settings. the sad part is it has to be this computer because the computer in the kitchen loads them all just fine.

you can get out to everything else then right?
try changing your DNS setting to these two address's: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
those are Google's public DNS servers. also try pinging them and see if you can get to them that way.
