Hell yeah its an Intel! Its the lil bro to my i7! Your going to be very happy with it Crim. Dont listen to the others. The little bit I have dabled in fraps and video encoding it has been a blast compared to my old AMD. Ill be doing it more often now!

LOL no. It's a MAJOR upgrade. ME's Core 2 Quad beats my 955 Black Edition, and his processor is older than mine. This i5-2500k is gonna BLOW my 955 out of the water. Just look at this chart that compares CPU's for gaming:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/bes ... 675-7.html

My CPU will be at the top of the list just under the i7's, still a whole level above my CPU.

    Meh.. It's an Intel...

AMD is good for gaming, and just gaming and non-professional everyday use. If you do anything else like I do (some video encoding, FRAPS recording, etc) you need an intel.

an amd opteron will smoke any intel xeon cpu out of the water. 3 of the 5 most powerful computers in the world have AMD processors. having 4 cores and 4 hyper thread cores is having 4 cores not 8. people who buy intel have no idea what the difference between a core, process, or thread is

Sad. Yet Intel owns about 80% of the server space. That's what AMD said too.

Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

I realize that but I was talking about home PC use. I have no idea how amp opteron and intel xeons operate, I'm not into server CPUs

Why did we bring a server based processor war, into a home and gaming PC thread, Awesome processor crim, it's the one I hope to get soon. Rock out with your clocks out! (Dear lord I used a processor geek term)

Why do you have to buy an i5 when the i7 is better and the difference is $100. :)

The i7 is only better if you do a lot of processor intensive things like 3D objects or such, the i5 has been proven to work better for just gaming and things on the same par. Though, I don't know if that will change when games start more openly embracing Hyper Threading, and people don't have to turn it off anymore.

you are now forgetting that bf3 supports HT which means the 2600k is going rock the hell out of it and the 2500k will still do it but it might be a little behind it now for this game.

I doubt a nearly brand new processor will be "Behind" =P 1 game is not enough, sure it will sway others but still. I might even end up getting the 2600K since they share the same sockets and can be cooled by the same damned heat sinks. and 100$ is pocket change really when you grand scheme it.

On a minimum wage job (plus one raise) that difference is quite a lot. I technically only have $50 to spend on PC upgrades right now. I'm selling my subwoofers + amp from my old car setup for $200. That pays for the motherboard, which is $200. I just now sold my motherboard, CPU and cooler on Craigslist for $150. That plus the original $50 pays for the processor I just bought.
