Decided to tone the card down.

In order to be able to attempt to get BF3 before the end of this year, I decided to instead of getting an overpriced 6990, I decided to step 1 down, and get the 6970, That should run everything perfectly fine no? I mean my roommate runs BC2 on a 5700 series (No clue which one) but sometimes gcards are crafty (Like a good 8800 being better then, or just as good as a 9800 DAMN YOU NVIDIA)

The 6970 is like 349.99 which compared to the 6990 (Double the power) is an average of 500$ more so O.O

Yeah but even if you buy a 6990 which is 2x 6970 GPU's on one PCB, crossfiring 6970's gets you a little more performance.

Dude.. I don't know squat about ATI but if you are spending $350 on a GPU it better dang well run a game that is coming out in two months. I spent $300 on 2 460 SE's and I know they'll run BF3 just fine.

I think it was on a site called motherboard.org when I was looking at new video cards, they tested the HD 6850 in crossfire mode and overclocked it a wee bit and it out performed the 6870's in benchmarking. Not sure how much the 6870's are now but I got both of mine after mail in rebates(for both cards runnning X-Fire) and it came to around $250 for both cards total. My 6850's will run Battlefield 3 just fine with no issues if this helps you in your cost savings.(If you plan on buying 2 6870's)

The HD 6970 is about on par with the GTX 580, so yes, it will run it fine.

See but I can't do cross fire or SLI (I don't like Nvidia, but I love intel so =P) So I always just stick with 1 card. THAT's why I asked, was cause of that stupid video where the guy said "Two sli 580's will do you fine" I mean, I knew it was BS but better safe then sorry?

Re: Decided to tone the card down.

The guy in the video only said that because: 1) He was talking to Nvidia. Of course they want you to buy two of the most expensive cards on the market. 2) Two 580's will max out any game released in the next two to three years. They don't want to give away any real information regarding system requirements. Maybe the game will be optimized enough to max out with a GTX 550. Not knowing for sure builds hype and gets people to spend more money getting the best upgrades they can.

Long story short, a 6970 will likely run any game coming out next year just fine. I fully expect my 580 to hold up easily, considering it has no problem running BC2 at all.

I better listen to that guy and sell my SLI'd 570s and go with SLI'd 590s. I mean if SLI'd 580s is what he says to run I want to be sure to have the best there is!!!! :icon_rolleyes: NOT. I have no worries about BF3. IMO a single 570 will do just fine. As will the 69xx series cards. He is there trying to market for Nvidia and to make the AMD crowd go I need better if they recommend SLI'd 580s. You know hes getting paid to say that.
