    Crossfire question

    Hey guys.

I'm thinking of crossfiring my Radeon HD6950 for bf3. However, I have a question. Does the new gfx need to be exactly the same? (OC, brand, etc.?)

    Thanks. :icon_shy:

    Re: Crossfire question

I don't think it's brand specific, but it does need to be the same GPU and memory size.

Also make sure your power supply is sufficient and your motherboard supports crossfire.

    Re: Crossfire question

From my understanding ATI/AMD cards can be crossfired with other ATI/AMD cards like a 6950 and a 6870. I'm not 100% sure as Im an Nvidia guy.

Ramen is right, and Plum is half right. To crossfire ANY AMD card, it does not have to be the same exact brand, it just has to be the same GPU. For instance, I have a Gigabyte Radeon 6870. Newegg no longer sells that brand 6870 but I could (and am going to) buy a Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon 6870 to crossfire, and that will work just fine. It just needs to be the same GPU.

Now, the 6000 series have something special that the others don't. You can crossfire any 6000 series card with another from the same lineup. For instance, you can crossfire any card from the 6800 lineup, or any from the 6900 lineup. Hopefully this will help you understand if you don't:

    6970 / 6950 = yes
    6990 / 6950 = yes
    6850 / 6870 = yes
    6870 / 6970 = NO
    6850 / 6990 = NO

so basically, any 68xx cards can be crossfired with any other 68xx cards, and the same goes for 69xx cards with any other 69xx cards.
