I plan on building an insane gaming rig, but in case there are people that do more research on PC parts then I do (I just know how to hook it all up and fix it not start it =P) I'm going to link and name all my parts so that you gear heads can pick it apart and help me make it even more beastly. Looks pretty good....I do have one question though. The way that the cooler you selected blows air out...wouldn't that mess up the air flow direction? It would be blowing hot air directly at the side of the case instead of towards an exhaust fan, which would lead to mild temperature issues possibly....what I mean is the indirect airflow would cause the temp inside your case to be higher than if it was blowing towards an exhaust fan.

Holy freaking moley that RAM is expensive!! I can get a 4GB stick for $35!

As for the blu ray drive, I still have a VGA LCD monitor. Blu Ray cannot be played through a VGA monitor...too much bitrate output. Your monitor needs to be DVI, HDMI, or DP. If you have one of those types of monitors, you're good Windows doesn't come with native blu ray support though...if you wanna play it you have to buy a player that can play them (I use Cyberlink PowerDVD 11. It's $100, and I can play blu-ray when I have my pc hooked up to my TV.)

Also, it says that GPU and sound card are out of stock and deactivated....so Newegg CA is not gonna restock them. I can't find them on tigerdirect CA and Newegg CA doesn't even carry 6990 cards anymore.

And spending that much on RAM is a waste, especially considering you do not want to run 1.65V RAM stock on Sandy Bridge, if you push it past anything beyond that it can seriously damage the motherboard, intel has come out and said that while 1.65V RAM Will work, it is the absolute max and anything beyond is unstable. You are honestly better off buying this RAM, and pumping the saved money into another part of the system.For instance an i7 2600k.

The i5 2500K is the equivelant to the I7 2600K other then it lacks hyper threading in gaming articles the i5 has even proved BETTER THEN the i7. I NEVER overclock, So that leaves the memory on point. As for the Soundcard and Graphics card being "Deactivated" it's out of stock, those puppies are brand new so they sell like fucking crack to hardcore gamers. It's merely a placeholder to say a "6990" and "That asus soundcard" any place that ships to Canada is A-OK I WOULD take more memory, but I think that ANYTHING over 8 gigs is just WAYYY too much, plus I think I remember reading somewhere that the board only supported 8 gigs to 2200 and underclocked everything else... not sure if that was for another board though. Could be wrong. If it isn't then I would definitely get the 16 gigs if it turns out to actually be an upgrade. As for the whole VGA I use only DVI cause I'm gonna get a 27" and the cooler I will look into cause I know copper cools better then aluminum and was just using that cooler as an excuse to use SOMETHING other then stock. Someone get PLUM in here to check and see what's better then what =P man seems to be a beast PC builder.

Its only better in certain games, as multi threading become more common in games the 2600K will show its strength over the 2500K. But whatever, listen to plum since apparently he is the only one on the forum when there are plenty of guys who are plenty knowledgeable and capable.

I also never told you that you should get 16GB, i simply linked it because you seem to want to go the extreme, and i figured if i was going to link to a very fast 8GB 1.5V kit, i might as well link a very fast 16GB 1.5V kit.

Yeah anything above 8GB is overkill unless you do a lot of HD photo/video editing.

cases are pretty much personal opinion, cause most have adequate airflow. video cards as well are your own choice. although watch cooler designs.

Zalman is a brand I know and trust. As for you cecil if I insulted you or seemed to be going against you I apologize but generally I always want a second opinion and since plum was the first to say "You should try Y because X is bad for Z reason" I understand that Hyper threading isn't looked at in gaming and once games are finalized for it it will be but, by then I think the i7 will be outdated =P Also I never said plum was the only one, but he is just a second opinion of someone whose built a rig similar to mine. As for the memory, do you really think 8 gigs of 1600mhz will out do 8 gigs of 2200mhz with better timings? I have no sweet clue if it will or won't cause I've never benchmarked ram before haha. I will definitely look into that heatsink both the Zalman and the one that Cecil reccomended to see which of the two has better reviews. Someone answer that Mhz question!

Edit: After reading 3 different websites of User Reviews for both the Noctua and the Zalman, it seems the Zalman is the champ, based on the fact that it can cool the i5 2600k on JUST heatsink with the fan off that's pretty cool haha. Plus it seems to run CPU's at a lower average then the Noctua does so =3

Yeah I saw a benchmark in a tech forum with one of the high-end Zalman coolers where a first-gen i5 was overclocked to 5.4GHz or something insane like that...stable....with no fan. Those things are sick.

Hey, I don't know where you live, but if you live around the GTA, check out a store called "Canada Computers" They have competitive prices with newegg and tigerdirect, and they'll price match your products. I like newegg, but I can't stand paying for shipping.

Someone just confirmed that the 1600 would be better because of the tighter grouping, not to mention I highly doubt Game Sellers will start demanding certain MHZ of ram and not size =P Can anyone else recommend something better?
