    RAID status Initialize

SO i get on my PC this morning, and as it boots up, i see that my RAID status is INITIALIZE. and when the OS boots up, it takes soooo long. after it finally boots up, i check the status again, and it said INITIALIZE 1%. and it rises 1 % every 5 minutes. I did some search, and I figured i just have to leave it.

    whats your verdict?

    thanks

I googled it and it appears that it's doing that because the computer was shut down incorrectly. Probably hitting the power switch or a power outage?

More detailed answer from a tech forum:

It's writing EVERY block on ALL the disks. This is done to make sure that the parity is correct.

You just need to restart it again. :)

No, that will only restart the process. He has to let it go all the way through. With RAID it has to initialize and check every bit of the hard drives to make sure the RAID controller is functioning with the drives correctly. The higher RPM drive, the shorter the time it takes to initialize.

Thanks! i knew it was nothing bad. yeah, it was a incorrect shut down. I made it shut down, but 5 minutes later, it was still shutting down. so i hold the power switch to turn it off.

its been 5 hours now, and 35% done! woot...

haha yup. Now you know not to do that anymore. I believe through your RAID controller you can set it to initialize in the background, that way if this happens in the future you'll be able to load to desktop and still use your computer while it's verifying everything.

    Re: RAID status Initialize

So now it's at 75%. Wow it's taking a long time. And now there's some other freak phenomenon. I open google chrome, I am at my new tab page, I click a page I want to go to, it loads the page but then straight after it goes back to the new tab page. Same thing happens when I type in the address. But, if I click the page (for example, TKC forum) and then press select something else, like the desktop, the page will load and stay there, until I re-select chrome.

With Internet explorer, the page just won't load, and it won't give any errors.

It's not an Internet problem. I can make calls with skype. But whats weird, is that I can't close the call window. I press the X, and it doesn't disappear. The only way to make it go away was to quit skype.

I hope this has something to do with thee Raid problem. I'll see tomorrow. Right now, I'm off to bed, excited and anxious to see if my new PC will be fine.

It's because things may have been fragmented when you shut down your PC, and the RAID controller is fixing it.
