    I have to admit, that in the last few days, I've been wondering about the i7. I think I might downgrade to an i5. I think it would satisfy my needs. My 3 year old quad core can run premiere pro, so I guess an i5 would do it. I'm still thinking about it.

    its all about the base platform.

    I run the i7-980X "Gulftown" on my 1366 Big Bang Xpower Mobo with Tri-channel memory.

    Sandy bridge runs on a 1155 socket and supports dual channel.

    AMD's are fine processors and especially effective at helping keep a build inexpensive. I'm in my garage typing this on the Phenom 955 and it rocks. I just put on of those EVGA 470 cards in alog with another 4gb of Gskill Ripsaw memory to bum it up to 8gb and this thing is rockin' fast. Not counting the Video card, I only have about $450 in this system. So if you on a budget.....you can't knock AMD.

    However, that said, I find the performance and stability of Intel based platforms to be more to my liking.

    And Yes, Nvidia is my choice of graphics cards.

    Ok!

    So ive receive everything now, except for my mobo. i hope it comes tomorrow, so i can start working on it this weekend. i also have to buy (locally) SATA wires, DVD burner, mouse and keyboard. for the mouse and keyboard, i think ill go cheap (30$ for each), then at some point i might get better stuff.

    so now the building questions begin! (i still didnt receive the motherboard, but im getting ready).

    -Do i put the cpu, the cpu fan and the ram on the mobo before putting the mobo in the case.

    -Case fans : i have 4 case fans, they have 4-pin connectors. Where do i connect them to?

    -PSU in first or last? i have a full tower, so does it matter?

    Yes

    your PSU should come with molex connectors, use those.

    shouldn't matter if you have a full tower...I personally put mine in first.

    This is how I do mine:
    Fans + HDDs + DVD drive + PSU -> case
    CPU -> Mobo
    CPU Fan -> CPU/Mobo
    RAM -> Mobo
    Mobo -> Case
    Case Peripherals -> mobo (such as Front USB Ports)
    GPU -> Mobo
    Connect Peripherals and power supply to mobo.

    Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

    What Crimson said, but i recommend that you do not connect any wiring beyond the case front connectors:
      Power
      Reset
      HD LED
      Power LED
    Untill tou get to this phase
    Connect Peripherals and power supply to mobo.

    If you want to carefully route, and tie off all your wiring neatly, as many of use like to do, do it at the very end of the process so you don't get caught in a "DOH!" moment and have to undo a bunch of pre-routed wiring.

    Something to keep in mind with fan quantity and direction is you need about the same volume of air out as your forcing in to keep from building up to much air pressure in the case and not being able to extract enough of the heat. The exhaust fans should be on the top of the case (or as close to) preferably a couple of 120's if possible. Hope this helps a little.

    hmmm... i meant the fan thats integrated in the PSU.
    the question still stands : I want to bottom mount my PSU. the fan has to be pointing downwards, right?

    okay, what's with this wiring? (this was the question about case fans i mentionned earlier)

    Image
    this is the wiring for a case fan. Each of the fans are the same. its a male, and a female. so im wondering, is that so i wire all the fans together, instead of having each fan connected to the PSU?

    okay, i found out thatthe PSU top/bottom fan sucks the air in the PSU, then it throw it out of the case. so if i have it bottom mounted, the fan should be facing upwards. but then more dust will be accumulating. and if i mount my PSU on top, with the fan facing downwards, i have to remove a 230mm fan from my case.

    hmmmm... tough decisions to make!

    get after marker air filter or one from favorite outlet. PSU should be pointed upward to follow the natural direction heat likes to go.
