I just realized that's only a 5.4K RPM drive, but you can get that or these other recommendations:

but as far as seagate goes, I strongly DO NOT recommend them.

Thanks ME! ill take'em! but the PSU has the fan on top, so ill need to get a case with a bottom mounting PSU, right? (or do i have to switch it up side down?) But what's the difference between mid and full towers? except for the size. what would fit all my components?

Still, there's the question about the sound card. Yes, or no. Ill probably only have headphones and 2 speakers, but i might move on at some point for 5.1.

And Penguin, since im into montage making and editing, i think i need as much a good CPU than a good GPU, but ill check it out.

EDIT: thanks ME again, but i checked, and the mobo i chose supports Crossfire.

DOUBLE EDIT: AGAIN thank ME! is the green one good? i heard than green have reduced power compared to others.

Okay so i found out about the sound card. I dont need one. My mobo looks good enough.

For the case, i finally understood about slots and stuff, and a mid-tower would do just fine. but the problem is, can i turn flip the PSU upside down (theres a fan on top), to fit with the case is chose (PSU location is at the top), or do i have to choose another one?

NP at all, from my experience, the PSU should be able to flip on the other side, I had the same worry when I bought my 1000w PSU (its not corsair tho, but there is a ATX case standard that all PSU makers have to comply to), cuz mine had it on top and my case mounts it on top but rest assured that it did flip and it fits perfectly.

Also, As far as sound card goes, the one on the mobo should be good enough..its supports 5.1/7.1 surround sound
    http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... id=3417#sp

Bobzwik, I have the Corsair F60 (60GB SSD) and Western Digital 1 TB Green edition. I just boot windows on the solid state and have VERY small programs such as firefox and drivers on it, but on the other 1 TB Drive, I have everything else, such as Adobe CS5 Master Suite, steam and Visual Studio.

If you need any help during the build, add me on skype if you have a webcam and a laptop and Ill guide you thru the process(I did that when Crimson was installing his CPU fan and thermal gel)..

Re: Need help building my first PC.

First Off you don't need to buy a heatsink this is AMD not INTEL. amd doesn't go cheap with the black editions it comes with a good heatsink the bottom is copper with 4 copper heatpipes with aluminum support Image

your cpu, case, psu all look good. but as for the other things i have recommendations.

i personally love ASUS better products then Gigabyte so this is the one i have in my pc and i do massive OC with it http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813131655

your ram looks good but this ram has 8-8-8-24 timing instead of 9-9-9-24 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6820231445

buy a 6870 its better then 6850 and in the long run will last longer http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814150521

OKAY for the love of GOD do not buy an SSD if you think it will speed up your PC! the whole 284 MB read and write crap is FALSE. i have 2 SSD's in RAID 0 and i never even get over 100MB read and write if you want to spend your money better and get performance, redundancy, and price per gig buy harddrives and DO a RAID array i would say RAID 5 or RAID 10 aka Raid 0 + 1.

here is a link to a good hard drive that can do raid http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6822136769

3 500 gig hardrives in raid 5 = 1.2 TB if i remember correctly but if one fails you replace on and rebuild the array and all 3 drives the files are split to therefore better performance. i bought SSD's hoping my pc would speed up and it didn't

We should switch the mobo to asus and jack up the RAM to 1600 MHz
    SO: change mobo to:
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813131655
    and ram to:
    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6820145345
    the mobo has crossfire support.
But its up to you if you want to switch the GPU and have RAID. RAID definitely is a good thing to have.

BTW? Wat SSDs do you have? I have A corsair F60, It dramatically increased my performance. Though, Ive never tried huge files because my SSD is small, but My start up speed went from 20 minutes to under 10 seconds windows boot (my BIOS takes forever..) And I believe Andersony has four 30GB SSDs in RAID 0, he gets transfer speeds of over 600 MB/s
    Image
That's only a 800 MB file, but the dialog disappeared after less then a couple of second so i had to be fast when hitting the Print Screen Key :P.
But yes, I know speed tends to go down after time.

    Links updated!

    i7 Build:
    Item Price Link
    CPU - i7 $285.00 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6819115071
    Mobo - Asus $180.00 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6813131705
    RAM - Corsair $110.00 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6820233147
    GPU - XFX $170.00 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6814125353
    PSU - Corsair $130.00 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6817139022
    HDD $165.00 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6822136769
    Case $120.00 http://canadacomputers.com/product_info ... _id=019666
    Fan $25.00 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6835118090
    Total $1,185.00

    NOTE: Not including rebates
an i5 will be about $85 cheaper
In this build, I changed ram, mobo, proccessor, HDD (to fit RAID 5), fan.

    RAID:
RAID= Redundant Array of Independent Disks

    Basically,
RAID 0, you share 2 disks ex. 2x500GB makes it look like 1 TB. BUT NEVER USE THIS! You then have 2 times the greater risk of loosing DATA.
RAID 1, You mirror 2 disk, ex. 2x500GB, but your system only will see 500GB, so if one fails, you have another HDD
RAID 5, you have 3 disks, ex. 3x 500GB is like a super RAID 0+1, you hook up 3x500GB, to make your system look like it has 1.2TB, but data is scattered and compressed across all 3 drives, so if one fails, you loose NO DATA. And you can order another hard drive ASAP! and as soon as you plug it in, data will automatically recover back onto the drive. A lot of companies use this in servers.
RAID 10: This is basically you share then mirror. For example, you have 4x500GB, you would have 1 TB of disk space and 1 TB of redundant space.
By far, I would recommend RAID 5

most ram says designed for intel but you can go to asus site and see if its listed under supported memory (i would do this no matter what the ram). the ram i posted though is 8-8-8-24 not 9

yes the cpu does come with a heat sink.

the 6870 is about 20 percent more powerful then 6850 and games use more GPU power then CPU power

Re: Need help building my first PC.

If you buy an OEM CPU it won't come with a heatsink. But the INTEL coolers are crap anyway.

Affter messing with bulding watercooled systems part by part, I finally made my like easier and just went with the Corsair enclosed water cooling system....just a let less hassle and alot easier on the nerves at first start up (worring about leaks and such)

As is usually my bad fortune, as soon as I installed the H50 above, the H60 came out.....grrrr

As for cases....I love my Corsair 800....they don't get much better made than this. Lots of space, external acccess to swap out drives, lots of cable routing holes, a place at teh top to mount a water cooling radiator, easy to access through side panel, hard drive bays have a fan right there to cool them, and it closes without any hassle at all.

It hasd an access door on the back for installing new coolers without removing the Mobo....they really thought of everything.
