Ok here are the two options we put together. One is using a GTX570 the other is using a 6970. Gives you an idea of whats out there. You can make it cheaper also if your not going to overclock it then don't pay the extra money for the "k" version. That is the unlocked version for overclocking.

Don't forget that he's doing this in Canadian dollars not American. Prices are a little different plus conversion.

Those prices are within his budget. The exchange rate is roughly $0.96 CAN to $1.00 US. If hes not over clocking he can drop to a normal 2500 to save a few bucks. Forgot to add in an OS. Win 7 Pro is about $130. Also, by all means he doesnt have to use those exact graphics cards. This is just to give him a rough idea of what you can build for what price range.

Go to newegg.ca for Canadian prices. They are very similar to what I posted. Using the same components as the nvidia build plus adding in Win 7 Pro 64 bit the total is $1,147.92 at newegg.ca

I'm very satisfied with my MSI Big Bang 1366 board's performance.

Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

So this is what ive come up with. Its a AMD build.

    PSU:
    http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=023484

    CPU:
    http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=030521

    Mobo:

    GPU:

    HDD:
    http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=029866

    SSD:
    http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=028372

    Case:
    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... &body=MAIN

    Cost : ~1150 $CA (perfect!)

What's left : OS, DVD drive, Monitor, keyboard, speakers and mouse.

One thing im still wondering about, is the sound card. Is it necessary? i would think so, since i want speakers and nice sound. but i have no idea what to take! any recommendations? (under 80$?)

EDIT: oh yeah, are all the parts compatible? i checked, and i think they are, but i didnt go down in small details.

    Get this PSU:

$50 cheaper and 50 watts less.
And this hard drive is better:

Another thing is that if you're going to be for gaming and not just pure processing power, you can go down a few bucks for the highest end P2 X4 black edition instead of the T1090, and then shoot for a higher end card. The 6870 is the brilliant mid-range card, or you could go up to a 6950. Both are great, but I'm not sure if there's a gigantic performance boost between the main two 68X0 cards.

Also, I don't know about anyone else, but probably the thing I look at most out of all the parts is the PC case, and seeing low cost cases just makes me cringe a little. It seems like a simple part, but it can be either beneficent or deficient. I definitely don't want to force a decision on you, so just go with what you feel fits your needs.

I'd stick with an X6, but I think he should stick with the 6850, but just do yourself a favour, get a diff mobo with Crossfire so u can buy what ever card u want in the future and crossfire it. Plus I think crimson mentioned that u can crossfire different sets of cards.
