As for ram, you can check compatibility with MoBo at the respective sites.

Im actually looking at a barebones kit from tigerdirect. Is there any thing wrong with these? The only downfall I can see with building your own is warranty. Ive seen some places that will custom build them for you, and on average for an AMD system, it comes to around $1200 US and have a 3 year warranty on them.

You are in the U.S., right? For $1,200 you could build something much better than what you will get from a custom build company.

Thinking of AMD, their Phenom II X 4 black Edition 975 ranks higher than their 6 core processors. After reading alot of info on Intel and AMD, they are both comparable and in game play, you wont see any difference, so my thinking is going AMD, save on the processor cost and upgrading on the GPU card.

yeah boo_yaa you can go that way if you dont want to deal with taking the time to build it or think of making mistakes. The reason the quad core ranks higher in alot of reviews is its been around longer and in some test they are better performing but that is because most software doesnt know yet what to do with the extra cores. Though it wont take long until they do start programming in the hexacores. One thing i will tell you booyaa is to look at getting an extended parts warranty that way if the system start dieing that you can just have them replace it versus you having to buy new parts. Most parts manufactures only have 1-3 years max warranty.

It think ill be basing myself on a AMD processor, instead of Intel. Im not too much into making videos, and im sure a good AMD card will do just fine for my needs.

I think they say the Black Edition was designed to be overclocked without to much fuss. For the price if you want to save a few nickels, I would choose AMD and upgrade the GPU.

i have the 955 BE and i like it. havent tried to OC it yet (with my parts dying its hard lol). Neway i seen that some people had it up around/over 4 ghz on air. just remember if u plan on overclocking factor that into all ur purchases (especially the psu) Never EVER go to cheap on a psu. it can fry everything u just spent ur hard earned money on. If ur not sure just remember google is ur friend. type in OC'ing amd 955 black edition and a ton of stuff popped up. u might wanna read some of them to see what mobos, memory, psu's and stuff that they are having the best luck with. I remember when everyone claimed that u needed multiple 12 volt rails and now alot claim u just need 1 with a good amperage rating. so like i said always do ur research. better to do it now then to have to pay to ship parts back that arent compatible.

You can get an i5 2500k processor and mobo for about $300.

for $1200 for a quad core is a rip off, you can even get an Intel 6 core for that price... (including all the parts)..

AMD six cores are about $200, are you sure tho? An intel i5 sandybridge is faster and its only $210

Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

We built a budget minded i5 Sandy bridge over at OCN for about $1400 US $, i'll see if I can find the build and post it here.

    [edit]
Ok here are the two options we put together. One is using a GTX570 the other is using a 6970. Gives you an idea of whats out there. You can make it cheaper also if your not going to overclock it then don't pay the extra money for the "k" version. That is the unlocked version for overclocking.
