Well, here's something I never expected to see. Either Activision (and/or Infinity Ward) has lightened up a bit, or it's begun to consider Battlefield 3 a serious threat to its bottom-line, because the company has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will support dedicated servers on the PC.

Let's give credit where credit's due. Activision is to be applauded for this change, because not having dedicated servers was a major problem with Modern Warfare 2. It made it difficult to hook up with friends, and if the host dropped, then the entire game stalled for a few moments. Not ideal for a competitive game.

Black Ops improved things quite a bit, but even the dedicated server implementation there is clunky. Around the game's launch, it took about a week or two before I could reliably connect to the same server each time, in order to hook up with my usual group of friends. Here's to hoping that Modern Warfare 3 handles dedicated servers better, and with less restriction that Black Ops faced (being forced into a certain provider).

As is likely obvious in my opening paragraph, I'm not confident that this change was made because the PC gamer is valued. Activision has not often proved itself to be a company that cares much about what gamers want, as long as it can reap the rewards of huge revenue numbers. It wouldn't surprise me if Battlefield 3, which also has dedicated servers, along with having what seems to be a much higher hype level at the moment, played a big part in this change.

Either way, this is one change that's great for PC gamers, and at this point, that's all that matters.

A) BF3's IMPRESSIVE GRAPHICS
B) BF3's IMMERSIVE MAPS
C) Everything else that makes BF>CoD for GAMEPLAY.
