Disgusted with component quality

SO some of u know about my issues with components. IF u dont hears a short summation. I bought all my stuff last feb/mar. My video card (with a lifetime warranty) quit after 4 months. Its bfg so warranty means nothing. My psu quit after 10 months. sent it rma. got a new psu and my mobo went. So 3 out of the 5 main components quit within a year. my ram and hd are the only things still working.

Neway im looking into grabbing another hd prob at least 1TB. so i was checking out newegg. and sorted for 1Tb hd with the best rating. the first cpl were recertified (which ill stay away from) but the next couple BEST rated have failure rates between 10-25% thats ridiculous. how can a drive with a 25% failure rate be considered good. wth. so just for fun i went and added up like the 10 so called best rated hds between 1-2tb and the average failure rate is 17%. if u only went to work 4 outta 5 days how long would u have a job? I no electrical components have DOA's becuase there is alot that can go wrong but still.

Memory isnt quite as bad put psus are up there too. Then to top it off most of the time u have to pay out of ur pocket to RMA. so u get a junk product u paid for and have to pay to return it. stupid. On a side note, if ur nice to newegg sometimes they'll pay for the rma.

Dont get Seagate HDDs. Get WD. Also, for very valueable data, back it up on an SSD, external drive, or online.

i would not trust the reviews on newegg. honestly they need to delete them all and start over, alot of them people never even owned the product but put a review on there anyway. HDD will fail eventually there is no way around it, really you just need to hope that it will live as long as the rest of the parts in your pc. Ive had good luck with WD, Hitachi and Seagate, Ive also had a drive from each one of those company's fail. SSD are still to new to really have a failure rate and usually if the fail its when you first plug them in. if you prize your data get 3 1TB HDD and put them in RAID 5, if one drive fails simply replace it and your data is still in tact. honestly if you have a microcenter near you go there. there return policy is awesome and you never need to deal with RMA if the product fails within the first year. you can add additional years to that for a small fee depending on the product in question.

That's why you look under their name on the review. If it says "Verified Owner" that means that the account that was used to write that review has purchased the product from their website, and the person actually owns it.

Thanks for that tidbit, I've often wondered if the manufacturers might have there cronies write misleading info to pump they're products.

i understand that some people might just write stuff without owning or just trolling. But if u see a product with over 1000 reviews u can assume that the bulk are legit. and still seeing a failure rate in the 20% range is just stupid.

for all the technological breakthroughs that are happening how can they not make comp components that actually work. And the sad part is that most of them are DOA. Now i know that someone mishandling them might kill them. but i have handled my fair share of components and have never screwed one up. Ive only put together about a dozen systems so i have by no means done a ton. But where is quality control?

Another of of the biggies i see is sets of ram with one stick working and the other not. that just seems weird since if it was operator error u think they would fry them both.

I know what you mean about quality control. When I was just out of high school I got a job working for a phonograph manufacturer. If you haven't hear of a phonograph your the lucky one. The company was called Newcome Electronics and every time they ran into a bottleneck with orders they would cut the quality control department and just ship them out. Sure enough, a few weeks later, a good portion of them would come back for repairs. That's business I guess, and seems self defeating, but they still exist (making other stuff of coarse).

I've never had a HD go, but printers, copy machines and shredders.........don't get me started !!

well i havent had too much stuff go until this last stretch here. Ive had 1 hd doa and 1 give some clicks and that was it after a few months. Im looking at getting another bigger one so i can go ahead and partition it and make a full backup of my comp. The worst culprit for me is memory. ive had numerous non working sticks. one time i bought 4 512 mb sticks (yeah i know old school) neway only 1 worked. all from same package. i just wanted to see what others think and if they had issues like i did.
