    Antivirus Recommendations?

    I currently use AVG for my antivirus needs. Is this still a decent program? Im talking free programs. Any other free programs out there that might be better in you guys' minds?

    Agree. I think Avast is pretty nice. Does not have that good looking theme as AVG, but it absolutely should keep you pretty safe. ;)

    I have McAfee, but i have just in case Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This program works like a charm! when you are not sure if you have a virus, just tell it to scan, and it will find anything.

    I look at these two sites frequently to form an opinion. I get a lot of guys saying this is good and that is good, but what impresses me more is when they can 'show' me why they think that, ie 'back it up'...

    http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/rap-index.xml

    The rap test at the virus bulletin keeps results for 6 months, so your not just looking at who was good 'this month' ... Products that end up in the upper right corner are better, ie they not only find the crud before it gets on your computer (Proactive), they also can find the stuff after its gotten on the machine (reactive).

    The other site I check is av-comparitives.org --> http://www.av-comparatives.org/en/comparativesreviews

    Good Luck..

    Don't use AVG. Its known for crashing computers, use MSE...

    Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

    Ya, you're reading it right ! ;) ... the pro version suffered from some false positives that put it below the free version, LOL ... but both score above the 90 percentile ... IE good stuff maynard.

    As far as MSE, testing is purely an option for the companies to submit to. Microsoft got beat up pretty bad before the RAP tests began, when it was just the anti-viral testing going on (which you can still find results for at this site), so I think they opt'd out. Although I think they have a pretty good product going on now... a lot of people like it.

    The Virus Bulletin has been testing from 1998 if I remember right, they put on big conferences and most all AV companies show up to it. If you're a member and do well in the test, you can put their tag on your product to instill confidence in your buyers ... blah blah blah

    As far a a recomendation ... some of the ones mentioned above do well. I would add Kaspersky because of the sandbox feature for the browser (since thats where most of your crud is going to come from), and also NOD32 (written in machine lang. so its fassst and light on the machine) .. but neither of these are free.. just wanted bring them to your attention of candidates ...

    I use Avast Free Home Edition, malwarebytes and spy-bot SD and have never had a problem, I also use System Mechanic which does cost $20 but well worth the money, this is probably the best program I have.
