Motherboard problem... Again.. -.-

Ok, so I got my new parts today. I got the MSI 870A-G54 and an AMD Phenom II X4 955. When everything was put back together, i pushed the power- button. Many blue lights lighted up inside the PC, but nothing more. No error nosies, no reaction from anything. It could not be shut off by holding the power- button in or anything. The only thing you could do, is to cut the power off with the PSU. Something other i noticed, is that the OC button was lit, when it really should be off. Because it is used for overclocking, and you can turn the FSB up or down when the button is lit. There was no way to shut the OC- button off. I have tried everything. Clearing the CMOS ram, Taking out the CMOS battery and everything. Simply nothing happens when i push the button. The only function working, is currently the Power- button, but when it is on, it wont turn off. Also, I get no connection between the GFX card and the screen either. The CD- rom wont come out. Basically nothing works.. Anybody got any idea? I will call customer support at Amenio.no where I bought the parts.

hmm....could be RAM frequency that isn't supported by the mobo. if not, are you sure you plugged all the wires from the power button, reset, etc into the correct slots on the mobo?

That makes sence, if the mobo doesnt support the ram, then you're out of luck...

I am pretty sure that i have plugged those cables right, cuz i have studied the manual and plugged the cables after it. I dont think it has to do anything with the memory, cuz there is no difference whenever the memory is plugged in or if its unplugged. No difference at all.

I donno if this is right, but.. Is there a possibility that the CPU has been fried? When I pressed the button the first time, there was a smell of like something was burned, but I at that moment, i thought that it was because the parts is brand new. Is there a way to test the AM3 CPU on a AM2 mobo or test an AM2 CPU on the AM3 mobo?

the first one, no, since AM3 won't work with an AM2 mobo, but you can use an AM2 CPU on an AM3 mobo. they're backwards compatible. and the burning smell, umm...psu? I never smelled anything burning when I used mine for the first time.

Are you sure of this? cuz i red somewhere else on the net the exact opposite of what u said, so Im slightly confused...
BTW, what u said is more likely, so ill check a little more, and then Ill thest it tomorrow if its possible.

You can use an AM3 CPU in an AM2/2+ board only if it's had a BIOS update to support AM3 CPU's. You can't use AM2 or 2+ CPU's in AM3 board because they usually don't have the BIOS support. I dunno about the burning smell, could be your problem. Try unplugging everything except the mobo, CPU, and RAM and see if you can post then. If you don't have onboard video (which I don't think that board does) you'll also have to have your GPU plugged in. Did you plug the little speaker that should've came with the motherboard in?

Yes the speaker in the case is plugged in, but there is no sound from it.What if i unplug the CPU? what will happen. If that is not dangerous, Ill try it and see if I get a different response from the mobo. But do you mean a speaker that should have come with the board, or the one in the case? Cuz there was no speaker coming with the mobo...

Ok, when the "HDD" cable is connected in the Disk drive as it always have been, then it wont respond, but when I pull the cable out and tries to press eject while its only connected to the PSU, then it works.. I dont know what have caused this.. Wierd..

Should've been a tiny little speaker with two wires coming out of it into a plug-in. This would plug in to the motherboard on a connector with around 10 pins, which is also where you would plug in the power switch, reset switch, and case power/hdd activity lights. The motherboard shouldn't do anything unless the CPU and RAM are plugged into it. So no, pulling the CPU wouldn't be useful.

Yes, the speaker has to wires coming out of it. It is labeled "Speaker". According to the manual, the speaker should be put on a different set of pins. Tomorrow after school, Ill upload a picture of both the manual and the current setting of theese pins. I remember when I first bought that computer, I forgot to order ram, so I hadnt any ram to put in. Me and my dad tried powering it up without it to see that the other components were fine, and that it would power up. When we powered it up, there came several beeeps because of the lack of ram. Wouldnt this make some of the same sound? and by the way. As said over, there is no difference in the response i get from the computer if the ram is plugged in or out. The computer just simply wont do anything..

Do you have an extra PSU you could try? Or could you throw your new PSU in an old build that you know works to test it? If you look at the second page, his problem was because of a bad PSU.
