My pc is starting to hang behind the games coming out now, and i've finally decided to do some upgrades.

My current set-up is

CPU: Amd Athlon X2 dual core (needs change)
Ram: 4GB
PSU: SilverPower 400w
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 4670 (needs change)
Mobo: ASUS M4A78LT-M LE

I've been thinking about the AMD Phenom 2 Quad and maybe a GTX460. Im also not sure if i will need to change my PSU too...
I really can't afford to use any more 500 USD so if you got any good suggestions plz tell me :)

Problem is, if you get a Phenom II, then you'll also need a new mobo and new RAM (since you'll be running DDR3). Do you know what model PSU you have? Is it a prebuilt computer? If its prebuilt, whats the make and model?

Depends on the GPU he gets. That's why I was wondering what model PSU he has. You could take it out of the case as another option for finding out.

I built the machine myself a few years ago. The PSU is a Silverpower SP-400P2C.
really will i also need a new mobo?

Edit: So far i've come to the Asus M4N78 mobo, the Phenom 2 X4 Black Edition Cpu and the OCZ StealthXStream 600w psu. This will come at around 350 USD. Then i'll need a gpu which i can get for not any more than 150 USD at most.

Which model of the Phenom II are you looking at?

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

Im also considering to either just get a 5770 card or save some more money later and get a GTX460 or maybe an 6850.

You could save a few bucks by getting the 945 instead. The 945, 955, and 965 are all the same processor just with different clock speeds, but you could easily OC a 945 to a 965 without even changing the core voltage. Which M4N78 mobo are you looking at? Apparently there's several different versions or it.

looked into the 945 like u said. I'm buying most components from different stores so I'll get the best price and it was only like a 7-8 dollars difference on the cpus so i think i'll stick to the 955 :)

About the mobo: its the Asus M4N78 PRO.

well the 460 SE's are right around the $150 range. these are the slightly less powerfull 460 versions. however many people are saying that they run cooler and are more powerful than the 260's and are only a few FPS behind the normal 460's. SO depending on which one u get u might be able to OC it but people arent having a ton of luck with good solid OC's on them right now. However like i said they are still pretty decent. ANd yeah most 460's require a 450W PSU. Watch newegg and tigerdirect. they like to have mini price wars every now and then on their video cards. Especially when a newer model comes out they try to get rid of their back inventory. I paid $210 for my now junk 260 GTX and when the 460s and 470s came out they had the 260s on special for 115 like 4 months after i bought mine.

I checked around at newegg and discovered that i can save almost 200 USD if i buy from there instead of the norwegian shops i was looking at.
They didn't have the mobo tough so if you have a suggestion for a mobo that fits in the same price class as the one i was looking at i would be thankfull :)

Im not really sure about the shipping tough

hey if u could find someone in the states that would be able to ship it to you that might be an option. have it shipped to someone and then they ship it to you. u would obviously want to find out how much shipping would cost and stuff to see if its viable tho. i really dont understand why they dont ship internationally.

Unfortunately, there could be difficulties sending it off to Norway, because of fact that there will be expensive to get it past the Norwegian border. (Tollen, vettu banana ;) ) Myself I never buy things from other countries over the web because of that. The price might be way less expensive, but the shipping might be very expensive if you know..
