Which RAM?

I'm getting ready to upgrade my CPU/mobo/RAM and I can't decide which RAM I want to go with. The CPU/mobo I'm getting are here. So which of the following should I pick up?

This guy?
-or-
This guy?

It's probably note worthy to mention that the second set of RAM isn't on the QVL for the mobo I selected, but the 1 Gb model is, so I think it should be fine. That and ASUS hasn't updated the list since May.

I'm more partial to Corsair Dominator sticks myself, but I believe the comparable memory is way more than what you've picked out so if it's a monetary thing I know g.skill is supposed to be good. Other than that, no opinion.

hmm....I'd go with the 1333 myself. My personal opinion would be like T said, Corsair Dominator is the bomb..seriously, but if you're on a tight budget I'd go with the blue 1333 set. I don't have Dominator RAM yet, I have XMS, and it's still really good. Anyhow GSkill is optimized for use with Core i5 and i7 processors and runs better with them for some reason. Here's a set of Corsair XMS if you're interested. It's $2 cheaper than the GSkill set. It also comes with a $10 MIR card so it's only $42.99 after that.

I'd stick with the 1333 as well. The only reason I would say 1600 is if you plan on overclocking and enjoy trying (and sometimes failing) to increase performance/stability. I've got the ripjaw version of the 1333 ram (mine is this set) and I've never had issues. The 1333 set you listed is almost identical and has really tight timings as well so I think they should fit the bill.

G.SKILL is the only company that produces 48Gb of ram packages :icon_lol: . The second one may be faster, but not by much. there won't be much of a difference at all, so I'd go with the first one. It's listed as compatible, and unless you want to risk incompatibility with the payoff of a minimal difference in performance, choose the 1333.

So I took the dive and purchased my upgrades. Ended up not going with either of the RAM that I originally listed.

CPU
RAM
Mobo
Thermal Compound

Once I get a little extra money again I'm going to buy a new case and an aftermarket CPU cooler. Then I'll just OC to get the CPU on the same level as the more expensive 965. The RAM I picked is supposed to be pretty good and handles OC'ing well, plus it's on the QVL for the mobo.

I was going to grab this RAM, but it went out of stock as I was making my purchase (what bologna). Everything should be at my house next Wednesday (which is the day I'm getting back home from North Carolina) and I'll throw everything together.

The RAM that went out of stock is the RAM I have in my setup.

Yep, thats the same RAM I have (as I mentioned in my earlier post). From the revues I've found about it they do overclock really well, I just don't have the need so I haven't tried. So I can only assume the very similar g.skill ripjaws you chose, Don, will also be perfect for oc'ing.
