AMD's Catalyst Driver Gets Major Overhaul

    http://techgage.com/article/amd_details_upcoming_catalyst_driver_changes

The only thing I have to say against this article is, AMD used a test script to see how its cards fared against NVIDIA's in stress tests. NONE of the AMD cards caused a crash when put under loads of stress, but they report that NVIDIA had quite a few crash, when in reality it was only one card that crashed: GTS 250, which is a relatively low-end card right now. All companies out there try to make themselves look better than their competitors, but AMD exaggerated those results a good bit with the NVIDIA cards.

Looked it up and it's a pretty good card. The benchmarks show an average of about 45 fps in a resolution of 2560 x 1600 with 4x/16x DX11 on BC2. Most of us play in a lower res than that, and lots don't care for DX11 or really high AA or AF, so this card is gonna perform well if the res is dropped (I play at 1440 x 900). Looks good to me.

Make sure it doesn't overpower your processor or PSU though! You never know ;)

hahahahaha. did you get someone to build your computer for you, or was it a prebuilt? if it was prebuilt, was it custom or a certain brand (hp, dell, asus, etc). We might be able to find out what the wattage on the power supply is. try looking on the power supply and see if it tells you how many watts it puts out.

If thats the right rig, I think your power supply can handle the 460's. Based on what I could find, the gtx 460's require a 450 watt power supply (just like the gts 250's do); so it should be ok without changing your power supply. You may have to use a converter for the second 6 pin plug though if your power supply doesn't have an extra (the gts 250's only need 1) but that should be in the package for the new card. While a 450 watt power supply can handle the gtx 460 probably, it can't handle any two cards in SLI (so don't plan on throwing two in).

Oh I agree, its a little too much anyways. On a sidenote, I wonder how much benefit it would give to use the 250 for physics and the 460 for gpu (given a good enough psu) :icon_rebel: ? but that would only work with the right extra slot and higher psu anyways
