Can't connect to Steam at my college

I'm at my local community college now (Pellissippi State Tech) and for some reason steam will not open here. I have no clue why, I tried contacting steam and they told me to connect my computer directly to the modem :icon_neutral: I'm at a college...I can't freaking do that. lol. All they do is read from a book and have been no help to me whatsoever. I was hoping maybe someone could help me out? Everything else works perfectly fine, except for steam.

I don't see how they could block a connection from a program running off of my laptop. If I tried on one of the lab computers, yeah, but i don't see how from my laptop it's blocked

You can use a software to stop people going to some websites when they are using your internet connection. :)

They've probably got it blocked in the firewall. I'm assuming your using the campus wireless or just a LAN jack in your room. Either way, you'll be behind the schools firewall where they can (and probably do) block it.

Are you staying in one of their dorms? because if you are, you're obviously on their Internet and theres not much you can do about that.

No it's a community college, they don't have dorms. I've done some searching and found out TONS of colleges block the ports that online games use because they "don't have any educational value." lmao.

Set up a proxy server at your house then connect to it from school using your IP and port 80

You can do this using linux
