    RAID Controller

    i usually just use on board Marvell controller for RAID 0 than
    install os on other hd and backup with external. was curios though
    if anyone else uses a specific controller i want to run RAID 5 and
    any personal experiences with specific hardware would be appreciated .

    I run Raid 0 just so I can use 2 hard drives as if they were one. Don't think I can help you really.

    don't use one but....
    getting a raid controller will improve performance. Also will let you run more raid setups like raid 6 etc.

    thanks for info guys but i understand what raid is
    i just wanted to know if anyone has used a specific
    controller that they like.... there are many to choose
    from. 30.00 to 300.00+ just wanted some insight. :icon_mrgreen:

    Most likely, the 30 dollar ones use software raid (like your mobo), and that utilizes your cpu to do the "calculations". The higher end ones use hardware raid that have a dedicated controller to do the calculations (i.e. which bits write to which disk, etc.)

    upon further discussion with a couple other people i have decided not to go with raid 5 setup but a raid 10 instead with adaptec 2410SA
