I'll be grabbing this within the week that it comes out. I loved Starcraft and I'm sure the sequel will be good. I just hate that you have to buy three games to be able to play all the campaigns this time.

Can someone please give me a detailed description of what Starcraft is like? Is it a RTS game? Both single player and multiplayer? Has offline Skirmish etc?
    Similar to what other games?

Re: Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Is Warcraft in space (not World of Warcraft). Essentially you have workers who gather gas, minerals, and as you gather those goods you can start building different types of buildings and troops. For instance if you are playing as Terran, one of the first buildings you'll build is a barracks and from that you can build different types of troops such as marines and firebats (they are flame thrower dudes). Then you build other buildings that will allow you to build tanks and other stuff like that. A special ops building that will allow you to build 'Ghosts' who can use laser sights to drop nukes on the enemy.. etc.

Essentially you are gathering as fast as you can and strategically attacking your opponents in 1v1's 2v2's, etc. They also have FFA's . You can't see what your opponent is building, or where he is going, or where his base is so you have to scout. If he goes for a certain kind of unit and you are building the wrong counter, he is probably going to roll you pretty badly.

It's about speed, strategy, scouting and being able to control your units.

Others can expand on this, but to me this was the greatest game of all-time and I know many agree.

Here is a link to a Protoss vs. Protoss battle at WCG. Not the greatest of match ups as it's usually more interesting to get different races battling, but it'll give you an idea. Skip ahead to about minute 4. Game doesn't start till around then. BTW, this is the original game that came out in, I believe 97, not the new game that is coming out soon.

Essentially it's Age of Empires....just a hundred times better. One of my friends a while back played the original and it looked pretty cool. Never played it myself, but I loved AOE so I might buy this too.

Ok, I've played a few RTS games before, Age of Empires, Warhammer 40k, and Empires: Dawn of the Modern World.
Empires was a great game cause you could build armies of 1000's (from the Imperial age to WW2 - so I had 50 Superbombers (atom-bombers) or dozens of King Tigers and V2 rockets destroying the other teams :D)
The problems with most RTS games is the Population Cap, in AOE3 its only 200 and that sucks.

That game is better :D. Are though actual Commentators giving colour commentary for a video game? :icon_lol:

In South Korea Starcraft players are rock stars. They have a weekly TV show that shows the top players going head to head. It's like watching hockey or something on TV. That's how it's treated. You need to google it, you'll be amazed.

Of course South Korea is also the video gamers' capital of the world, where people make a living by playing them. lol

Yes, there's also a population limitation in Starcraft, at leas there was in the first one, of 200. Same thing applies that some unit's count as more than one.

I could get around the population cap in the original AOE :P

Just herd everyone onto transports, and the population drops. Simple glitch but very helpful :D
