I was thinking the same thing about the decade starting in 2011, but I'll have to look into it some more. Happy New Year to everyone though.

Technically speaking the new millennium started in 2000, and therefore the 2000s decade. 10 years have passed since 1.1.00, so it is the new decade.

Wikipedia wrote:For example, the decade commonly referred to as the "two thousands" ended on December 31st, 2009.

    Decade = 10
2000,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005,2006,2007,2008,2009 :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: Count It, thats ten years
The decade starts at 0, so 2010

historically there is no year 0. the first century was from 1 to 100 -- 2nd: 101 to 200 -- 20th : 1901, 2000 (end of millennium not beginning of new one) (comon, primary school history class???). Therefore the decade started in 2001 and ends in 2010 (the end of 2010), but 2010 is commonly (not historically or scientifically) know as the beginning of the decade. But who cares!! its just a end of new year.
    Happy new year again!

    Happy new year again!

Ever heard of the Theory of Relativity...Einstein?
Everything is relative to a reference point.
Year 0 starts at the beginning of time (the zero'th hour of the zero'th day)
1 year is defined as the time it takes the earth to orbit around the sun (from a reference point in space at a given time Year 0 Day 0 Hour 0 Second 0 to that very same point in space. The time it takes to do so is 0 Year's, 364 Day's 23 Hour's 59 Minute's and 59 Second's * [So Year 0 is from the beginning of time to Year 0 Day 364 Hour 23 Minute 59 Second 59]
A year is therefore the transistion from 0 - 1
2000 - 2001 transistion is one year, 2000-2009 is 10 transistions, hence ten years, hence Decade
A Century and Millennium follows the exact same principle but spanning at 10 or 100 times larger span than a decade

    Thats the convention used
    Happy New Year :icon_angel:

*(+/- A little, a day is not exactly 24 hours, so a year is not exactly 365 days...thats why we add an extra day to make up for it every 4 years :icon_angel: ;) )

    I agree with you, but
    Wikipedia wrote:The 19th century (1801-1900)...
    we all know that

Wikipedia wrote:Some writers like to point out that since the common calendar starts from the year 1, its first full decade contained the years from 1 to 10, the second decade from 11 to 20, and so on. The interval from the year 2001 to 2010 could thus be called the 201st decade, using ordinal numbers. However, contrary to practices in referencing centuries, ordinal references to decades are quite uncommon.

there you go. But it does say that this type of decade (the right one) is uncommon. So you (Slevin) and I are equally right.
Happy new year... for the third time!! :icon_teeth:
