Should I buy this?

I have saved up enough money for a new Alienware m17x laptop. With these specs and the price, I want to know if it is simply too pricy for me to spend all my money on, or if it's a good idea.

*anodized aluminum black shell.
*Intel® Core™2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
*Windows 7 Ultimate Package
*1 year warranty
*ATI CrossFireX™ – Dual 1GB ATI Radeon™ Mobility HD 4870
*17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
*8gm Dual channel DDR3 1333 MHz
*512GB - 2x 256GB Solid State Drive - RAID 0
*Slot-Load Dual Layer Blu-ray Combo (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
*Astro A40 Audio System
*Alienware Armored Messenger bag (hold Laptops up to 17in.)

This can run the latest PC games in just under 60 fps. This also comes with a free Alienware TactX mouse and TactX Keyboard. This is more powerful than any computer I own, including the desktops. The only downside is the price: $5,789 without tax. I have saved up about $6,200 and I really want a computer that will be able to run the upcoming games as well. Once again, I want to know if it is worth all the money.

Don't spend all that money on a laptop ,in December 27 there will be better laptops and desktops for less than that or build yourself a good one(desktop) with the money man . :)

if u have any do it urself ability that would be the biggest waste of money ive seen in a while. u could build urself one heck of a desktop for half that price and it will scream. then take the extra money and save for a car or something else equally awesome.

Yeah, I agree about the desktop. As much as I want a laptop for school work I will always use a desktop for my gaming. Just a better experience in my humble opinion. I wish I had the cash for a new desktop or even shitty laptop. Being poor sucks!

I also would strongly suggest just building a desktop. You could probably build one as good as the laptop you chose, but for half the price, and you'd also be able to do some overclocking since the BIOS isn't locked down. However, if you are going to go with that laptop, or any laptop for that matter, always always always get the best warranty you can. Things tend to start breaking after a year or so of use and you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot there.

Ok, so I did the leg work for you just to give you an idea of how much more PC you would get for that amount of money, but without spending near as much. If you get this, I would be mad jealous btw.

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133086 $119.99 (You might would want to trade this one out for a full-tower case, to give you some more room to work around on the inside. Maybe I'll edit and add a full-tower alternative)

Alternate Full-Tower Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129043 $149.99

Primary HDD for OS and programs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136296 $159.99

Seconday HDD for storage: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136344 $139.99

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236059 $199.99

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102858 $174.99x2=$349.98

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153053 $296.49

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145267 $259.99

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188039 $269.99

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115211 $549.99

CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 $33.98

Blu-Ray Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136175 $129.99

DVD Burner (so that you don't wear out the Blu-Ray one): http://www.newegg.com/Shopping/ShoppingItem.aspx?ItemList=N82E16827106335 $33.99

OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116762 $174.99

The total comes to $2,882.75 including shipping and handling to my house in Virginia Beach and 2-year extended warranty (starts at the end of the manufacturer's warrantly) for the mobo and both GPU's. That leaves you around $3300 to blow on accessories, or you could go buy a car, lol. This thing would blow the doors off of that laptop that you were looking at. If your looking for the mobility part of the laptop, honestly, with that much hardware, your battery life probably wouldn't extend more than an hour so you'd basically be a slave to a power outlet anyways. You could just fork over a few hundred of what you have left and get a decent mid-range laptop for travelling and surfing the web and crap.

I might just buy that instead DonJuan. Eyerock told me about building from newegg. Thanks for the opinions guys, and I'll be shooting all of you with a better computer by the beginning of next year. :icon_thelook: (the funny thing is, I don't have a car yet, and I could use one when I'm 16 XD)

How much knowledge do you have about putting together computers? I can point you to some very informative video's about piecing everything together. What about installing OS's? Let me know before you plan on buying anything and let me know what you pick.

I checked the links that you gave man ,wow bro. it is a monster that you want him to build and i am not sure that he knows how to put all those good pieces together ,maybe he has an idea but if i was you i would send him the video just in case ,'cause with those new kind of hardwares you have to know what you 're doing . Some of his friends are going to be jealous of him because of that motor -race (that is the name you should giv it man) .Well done Don . :icon_happy: :icon_happy: :icon_happy:

Peng. you could spend under 1500.00 or around 1000.00 and build a super fast computer. one that all you do on it is game.. Just an OS and games ... the technolage that is comming out now is super fast and super cheap too..

You dont have to be computer savy to build your own ... Whth the internet and don juan or anyone from TKC that you talk to all the time could help you put one togather .. Its really simple.. the best part of it is when you are done you will know when something isnt working like it should and be able to fix it your self instead of sitting on the phone for hours waiting on someone you can understand to tewll you to do a clean install..

Ailen ware is way over rated and priced and you will wait like 3 months for it to arive ..

I say BUILD your Own SYSTEM if I can help let me know

windows 7 for the operating system .. I have had no trouble with at all and its been running now for 28days... I built this system one year ago and until i installed 7 never knew how fast it really is
Might even get some kinda of grade in school for building it if you are in some kinda computer class

Thanks, I'll be making some decisions over the next month and a half. My Dad built a computer once using stuff from newegg and other sites, so I think I've got the help I need. Thanks again for the opinions, I'll try to use DonJuan's list as a guideline for what I need to get. I'll get started when the stuff gets purchased and brought in. :icon_crazy: :icon_crazy:

EDIT: Oh, and my school wants nearly nothing to with computers, so no grade, but I'll get to play games going over 20fps XD.
