I'm sticking with my 5870. I've had enough problems dealing with finding a graphics card that works.

    That's ATI for you.

LOL@ME and his ATI hatred. :icon_razz:
    lol
(TKC) brownman350 wrote:But they are the best. :)

True. BUT I know too many people with problems on them. Even though they are the "best", I dont think all of us have money for their high end cards. Besides, Nvidia came out with Nvidia Surround, its their version of eyefinity. Also, not only do they have Nvidia Surround, but its also 3D capable, imagine 3 screens surrounfing you all in 3D.
    ATI 5970 ($700) = Geforce 285/290 (Nvidia hasn't released it yet.)
    ATI 5870 ($400-$500) = geforce 480 ($500)
    ATI 5850 ($300) = geforce 470 ($325)
    ATI 5830 ($200-250) < geforce 465 ($250)
    ATI 5830 ($200-250)= Geforce 460 ($200)
That's how i look at it. And accually, their pretty much tied, because the 5970 is the equivelent of 2x5870s (underclocked)/ 2x5850s (overclocked), all you need is 2x 480s to match it. Sure, Nvidia is a bit more expensive, but you get more features, such as Physx and Cuda. Now, a lot of people are using Nvidia Cuda to do stuff, such as rendering and converting videos at 4x the speed of systems without Cuda and also better quality. And to top that off, ATI has horrible drivers. Bman, you had to wait how long untill they released 10.6 that supported your card and BC2 and then you were finally able to play it with better quality? Nvidia released SLI support for BC2 like 1-2 months after it came out. and every few weeks, Nvidia releases new drives to help your game performance.
(This is what i've heard so far, correct me if i'm wrong.)

(No, this is not an arguement, just stating facts :icon_mrgreen:
    I was bored, that's why i had time to write this..lol )

    ATI 5970 ($700) >>>> Geforce 285/290 (Nvidia hasn't released it yet.)

    ATI Eye Infinty ($150-300/monitor ; 3 monitors/ graphics card = $450-900) Nvidia Surround + 3D (minimum $400-500 / 120Hz monitor)

Do the math...you will have to pay $1000s more to setup a 6 monitor (or any #) station plus get 3D with Nvidia, than to have eyeinfinity with ATI.

Don't follow this BS 3D S*** its going to be all obsolute in a year or two when the new XHDTV's with 4 times resolution of 1080P come out anyway. Just like the fools that buy the latest gpu thats released every 6 months, you will now have to do the same thing with the monitors.

Look at all Apple idiots who bought the iPad and iPhone 4, wasted pieces of plastic and silicon. Wait for second gen devices...never get first gen unless you really need a new device (which iphone users did not since 70% of all preorders were from current customers upgrading)
Got news for all you iPad owners...you just got shafted. The iPad 2.0 will most likely have front facing camera, better wi-fi and 3G support for video conferencing/calling, and will also shatter in pieces if you drop if from 1 ft.

Accually, I'm not into 3D, i just think its cool, I'm not paying $2000 just for the monitors. And also with Nvidia Surround, you dont need 3D, it's exactly like eyefineity, $150-$300/monitor. iPhones and iPads suck, that's not comparable..lol..I dont plan to get 3D either untill better technology comes out and im not rich enough to buy a new GPU every 6 months :P

Umm 6 monitors?...tho that would be cool EXCEPT when playing a game, your crosshair would be in the middle of screen #3 and #4...

Sometimes measuring the bottleneck can be interpreted in so many ways. The only Thing ATI can render better then Nvidia is BSoD.

Yeah, 3D is just another fad...until they have displays that do not require wearing glasses. It's in, and then out about every 20-30 years.

According to benchmarks, the geforce 465 unlocked beats the 5850... 2 of those in SLI would beat the 5870.

Yes, because this card isnt as powerful as the 480
But if you unlock it and overclock it to the 480, then i think its almost the same.

I have a 5770, and don't have any issues...lol. Here are a lot of good deals on EVGA "B" stock products, cheap cards on there too:

I ordered the nForce 790i Ultra SLI mobo to use with my two 9600GT's for my HTPC project. Here is the case that I ordered yesterday:

They have those already...too bad they are really really expensive. Look at the new Nintendo 3D DS coming out. doesnt require glasses at all, but requires you to look at it directly and not on an angle. Mind you, its only a 4" screen. The cost for a 10" screen right now for one of those is about $10000, so give it some time. (just like ssd hdds)

But thats just because the technology is new, and given a few years, it will become mainstream and dirt cheap...just be patient and wait to get it when you actually need it, not just becuase its the must-have thing right now.

I am really looking forward to the OLED technology, that will be the next flat screen I buy. Hopefully the prices drop fast, so when my LCD's die I can upgrade. They should be in the mass market stores by the end of 2011, if all goes well.

That's how I always am, lol. I only buy technology that is 1-2 years old, unless there is an unbelievable deal on it. The only thing I bought when it first came out was my home theater projector, the Epson 6500UB. I paid $500 less than full price, which was $2,999.00 at the time...that was March 2009. When the warranty is up next year, then I plan on upgrading. The great thing about front projection, is this time next year I will be able to get a projector better than mine for $2,00, or less. I will still be able to sell mine for about $1,200, which will pay for most of my upgrade.

I will have to wait for my tax return. Then I can upgrade my processor, and mobo in my gaming rig. I want to get an i7 930, I am hoping they are less than $150 by February. They are $199 now at Micro Center, so it should be possible.
