I currently have a 10-in-1 all in one software that also does registry cleaning and other things so I'm looking for something that does those too. My price range is between $50-100, preferably something i can buy at a retail store so i can have a backup install cd.

BestBuy has a 2 Year subscription to BitDefender 09 for $59.99

    Any Suggestions?

    Anti-virus

Every day of my life , after my family and my job what i like the most is computer science ,i build computers and repair them also , so i know what i am saying .First ,what T3 said is true nothing is better than AVG free it does every thing even better than the others , they never stop tracking the net. just to know if there is a new kind of virus and it is not good to never use an anti virus because some of them are not just gonna kill your softwares and don't let you use your computer , they can distroy all your hard drive 'cause they have some attachments with numbers that they could leave behind and they will be part of your hard drive forever.the new beta Microsoft anti virus isn't so bad you can try it if you want .

Well I wouldnt take what Acer says as an absolute. Im running norton 2006 on a computer with 64 bit Vista Ultimate and its been about a year and I have had no problems and Im not even sure this norton was made for Vista but I do know Norton does make versions made for All versions of Vista. And the gamers edition which supposedly runs off less resources. I have PC tools on another computer and it does okay in VIsta 64 as well. And your right Charter does have its own security suite pachage which is nice.

I don't know that the Microsoft Anti-Virus is any good firsthand, just read that it was going to be good most likely.

    Are Viruses still very often?

I've heard of Spyware more often than Viruses and had more problems with spyware in the past, it's probably a lot of years since i had a virus in any of my pc's, i notice antivirus programs tend to slow down your pc a lot, because i had antiviruses in the past and i ended up unistalling them for the same reason.

I've never seen anything like norton gamers edition in retail stores, just Norton 360, Mcafee, Bitdefender. and a few other cheaper software.

Just another thought.. doesnt free AVG come with adware also which is as bothersome as spyware. Ive always used norton products myself and find them to work well in any versions of windows. I wouldnt want adware shoved at me. For the cost of an antivirus program its worth it to run a program you know and has come thru for you in the past whether thats a free program or one thats not free. Either way you want something reliable all around and glitch free as your personal firewall against viruses and spyware.

    There you go monitor.

I may just get Mcafee again then, i like the interface and features, but i hate the freezes. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll just wait till the end of my subscription and keep researching, and hopefully mcafee offers me a last minute deal for 40% off. :) So far i've received 10-20% discounts if i renew it now but thats not gonna cut it.

Re: Whats the best anti-virus software out there?

    Here I go

I currently have bitdefender. At the beginning after installing bd my comp was getting rly slow only for the first 4 mins. But after I ran a full pc scan it got better. I also like it because it has A fame mode. The game mode uses less computer power but still defends. You could make it so that once you run hl2 or steam it would go into game mode. For me it's been great, if it finds something fishy it tells me and doesn't let that thing run. I found out about bd by typing "best antivirus 2009" in google. Bd was #1. That's my 2 cents. Also it's like 30 bucks for one year.
