Yeah, I did a clean install, opted to do none of the updates, and installed the latest driver directly from Nvidia's website (that's suppose to be for Windows 7 64-bit). It did help a little but the overall performance was lacking.

He's got an ATI card. Nvidia always out performs them anyways. ATI's leading the market for now, but I'm sure Nvidia has a new card to be released this quarter that will blow them away.

So you still have issues after reinstalling Windows 7? Did you install the latest Graphics Drivers?
I was thinking it may also be a problem with the latest drivers. Thats why if I'm gonna try uninstalling them and installing older drivers that I never had any problems with.

Not trying to Hijack this thread but I have done all the latest updates for W7 I would not install the drivers for my MOBO or my XFX 8800GT cards...
The only thing Windows has Up dated was my Key board ( merc stealth) and my Hp 7960 printer... and to date they both work as per factory spec... windows has never offered to update my other drivers.. I do belive it was windows that was keeping me from Installing the drivers for the onboard Realtek sound ... But it could have had something to do with 64 bit and all i had was 32bit drivers ... Thanks to you Slevin I got that issue solved via google /realtek/windows7 drivers

ATI Maybe the winner this time... With the HD 5870 released now (which blows out any other card out at the moment) Theres still the HD 5870X2 and HD 5870X4 To be released in the next few months...Thats 4 GPU's on a single card!!!
The reason I'm gonna stick with ATI is because they were a Canadian Company (before being bought out by AMD)

Yeah, but come on, it's just like Intel and AMD. AMD will release something new and be on top for a few months, then here comes Intel *fwap* and blows AMD out the water (especially with the i7 and the too be i9). It won't last very long.

I have an ATI and get lots of crashes with HL2DM. I downloaded a privately made drivers program for ATI called Omega Drivers. It did not help with the crashes. I just don't think the game and my card are compatible unfortunately, considering I can't afford to upgrade this computer. However, it may help you. Check the site out.

I managed to completely remove my Catalyst 9.10 Drivers and Control Center and reinstalled the 9.9 version that i was using when i first had windows 7 in september. My graphics card so far hasn't displayed the Error message i always got when watching movies. But i still have problems playing games (which is prob the lag issues from windows update)
At least i got one problem fixed.

AMD is much better at making GPU's, not CPU's...Intel destroys AMD any day of the week, but ATI is now putting a lot of pressure on Nvidia...they just released a new HD5970x2 and its ridiculous.

Nvidia's current top of the line card its still $500-600 depending on where, and its not nearly as good as this. (No DirectX 11 support, lower clock speeds etc)
    And about 1 year old.
