    More computer problems

Hey, one of my ram sticks was dead so i needed new ram.

I bought 2 gigs of ddr2 pc5300 and tried putting it in the 2nd slot (i have 4 slots) and it did not boot. I tried putting it in the third slot and it booted. I then tried reversing the 2 sticks and it did not boot. Why does this happen?

    what mobo do u have?
If you have DDR2 Ram then you need to put it in 2 of your slots of the same color 1st and 3rd and/or
2 and 4 you have to use same colored slots for it to be dual channel.
your mobo manual should have this info in it

also are they the same speed sticks? same manufacturer and same voltage specs? unfortunately this stuff being differnet can cause issues. especially voltages depending on ur mobo.

Most mobo's with 4 or more slots have dedicated positions for there DIMM0 and Dimm1. This means you need to fill in all Dimm0 slots first (depending on the mobo, Dimm0 is either the first and third, or first and second slots) As others said some may be coloured, but also trying looking for any labels on the motherbaord PCB

yeah if they are all the same its just figuring out which slots need to be filled. if u cant tell and it doesnt say right on the motherboard in itty bitty writing check the manufacturers website. just pulled up the link u gave and according to it the membory should go in the 2 blue slots. since thats dimm1 -2 and the yellow are dimm3-4. it shouldnt be working with the ram in the 1 and 3 slots. are u sure when it booted that it recognized all the ram?

    Re: More computer problems

What i have right now is 3 sticks in my mobo

The stock one is in the first slot (originally the stock sticks were in the first 2 slots, and the one in the 1st slot didn't work. So i took it out and moved the one from the second slot over to the 1st)

There are 2 sticks on the rightmost slots (3 and four) both new.

When i tried putting 1 new stick next to the old stick, it did not boot (but i think this had something to do with my int. graphics, because the pc light was on. I just had no display)

When i tried to put the 2 new sticks in the first 2 slots it did not boot. same thing as the ()'s above. BUT when i put in a graphics card it started up fine. But then it froze after about an hour or so, so i think there's something wrong with the way my mobo handles the pci slot

Thanks for all the comments so far guys :) keep em' coming. I really need help :(
